My Whirlpool just quit it just won't turn on was

Hi,
When most Whrlpool dryers do not turn on at all. The most common cause of failure is the door switch and the door switch actuator.
Here is how you can test this.
1 Empty the dryer of clothes
2 Locate the door switch actuator. it will be over along the top edge of where the door closes, just inside the lip. There will be a little (3/8th inch wide) metal tab covered in plastic. The is the actuator the is mounted to the electrical door switch. The door switch is a valuable safety device that prevents children, pets and adults from loosing limbs and other things in a spinning dryer. DON'T BYPASS IT.
3 The tab may simply be broken off. If you can push the piece and hear a clicking sound, it means the switch is probably good but the tab is not.
4 To test this push the tab in or jam a ball point pen in there until it clicks, turn the dryer timer on and push the start button. It it comes on, that was the issue.
WARNING: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PUT YOU ARM INTO A SPINNING OPEN DRYER DOOR.
JUST DON'T DO IT. IT CAN RUIN YOUR DAY.
5 If you push the tab and get no click but a sort of springy action. The switch is broken.
Usually the switch replacement kit has both the metal tab and the switch.
That is usually it.
If you can supply me with the model number of the dryer, I can help you locate the right part and give some instruction on how to do it.
Hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

I have a Whirlpool GEX9868JQ0 Electric dryer.

The electronic control detected that the thermistor is open as indicated by the fault code E1. It's either the connection between the thermistor and the electronic control is broken or the thermistor is indeed open. Troubleshooting and repair is an easy task can be one in a couple of minutes. Make sure to unplug the dryer before attempting any repair work.

Remove the dryer's back panel to access and check the thermistor. Remove the screws securing the back panel then pull the panel off the cabinet and locate the thermistor on the blower housing.

Check to make sure the wires are snugly connected and there are no signs of bad contacts or corrosion. Disconnect the wires if there's no issue found with them and the connections then tape the wires together or jump a wire between them.

Put a few load of wet or damp clothing, plug the dryer in then start it. Error E2 should appear on the display to indicate that the thermistor has been shorted. It signifies that the electronic control and the wire harness are all good and the thermistor is indeed open. Replace the thermistor with part number 8577274.

Simply unscrew it from the blower housing, install the new one, and transfer the wires from the old to the new one. It actually doesn't matter to which terminal the wires should go since the thermistor is not polarized.

Feel free to update us about the development of the troubleshooting and repair should you have further questions.

Note: This advice is outlined for the purpose of troubleshooting without the use of a volt-ohmmeter. Simply check the resistance of the thermistor if a volt-ohmmeter is available. Refer to the table below for the correct resistance reading.

My whirlpool gold electric dryer

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Sounds like your problem may be with the heating coil. Remove the back of the machine and try to
locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside the air duct you will find
the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistor. Once you have located the heating coil, remove
the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it
is faulty. If the heating coil is ok, then: You can check the thermostat/thermistor by removing
the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape. If the coil heats up then replace
the thermostat/thermistor.
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST. This could cause
a fire, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine.

Good Luck, Hope this helps

Drum squeaking noise

Your dryers uses rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time. Idler pulley your dryer has a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it. Rear drum bearing assembly does not fail often in this type of dryer. There are videos of the testing and replacing of these parts at http://appliancehelponline.com/dryerrollervideo.html this will walk you thru the troubleshooting and replacement of these parts Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. This brings us to the last problem could be the blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time.To check this grab the wheel and see if theres any play . But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you need to replace it. If you need diagrams or illustrations of your specific model you can also enter your model # there. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.
