Make sure the blades spin freely. Replace the deck belt.

ck belts that run hydraulic pumps for tire drive , it might have slipped a bit with chain caught , now belts skid instead of transferring power to pumps , also these pumps might have a manual pressure relief reset , I was thinking they only used them on bigger units , but you might have one as well ,hey its possible , this will need to be reset prior to continuing mowing (refer to manual for location )

Is this just when you pull the steer lever into reverse ? Most are made that way and I think the newer ones offer a bypass on them to stop that. The old one just get a jumper wire on each steer lever to stop it.

When you say will not stay engaged you are saying that it comes on then cuts off ? If you turn on the PTO and it engages and the mower is not moving does the PTO stay engaged and for how long (if OK then need to check connections for PTO ) . If it is not engaging at all then we have to look at interlocks / safety switches . Probably a bad safety switch on one of the steering arms

Low oil senser might be bad and this will not allow it to start.

First, remove fuel line from carb. Fuel should run out

There is a switch under you seat or attached to your seat somewhere that is probably not activating or is bad. This switch has to be fully depressed to activate the drive. It is a safety feature.

Check your blade belts.

If the unit stopped moving at once. I suggest checking the belt. It is very unlikely both Hydro-Gear units would fail at the same time. check under the mower, and check on top of the transmissions, you should see the drive belt running between both transmissions and the engine.

Could have broken the shear pin in the drive pulley. If one of the pulleys turns when you put it in gear but the other pulley does not turn then the shear pin is broken or missing.
