Hi, i'm using the ASUS M2N-MX SE MB, with AMD ATHLON64 3000+.
while the PC is working, suddenly it restarts, posting the message: "bad bios checksum" searching for the motherboard CD installation for Programming, after doing that, it restarts, displaying the message: "CMOS bad checksum.. Press F1 Setup, Press F2 load default"
Sometimes it boots Windows, sometimes it doesn't.
Even when I reboot the PC myself, again the same message appears.
please help !

Hi,
Asus M2N-MX Motherboard
AMD64 x2 4600+ Dual-Core Processor
500gb Harddrive.
Windows Vista 32bit
i recently decided to upgrade my RAM on my PC to 2 x 2GB ddr2 800 AData Ram. However when i insert both ram modules my PC wont load up, The mother board is supposed to accept up to 4gb RAM to my modules spec. I have tried all configurations of the ram channels. I have tested both modules on their own and all is ok. I tried to upgrade to 3gb with my old ram but again no joy, wont power up. Therefore i need help as to why i cant upgrade my RAM. Please help.
Many thanks
Gavin
I had the same problem and ASUS tech support was of no help. I did however find the culpret in the BIOS setup. Go to Advanced, Chipset, NorthBridge Chipset, and Memory Configuration. Set the Bank Interleaving to Disabled and save the settings. Check these settings also while you are there:
Channel Interleaving = Auto
Enable clock to all DIMMS = Disabled
Memory Tristate = Disabled
Memory Hole = Enabled
Unganged Mode = Enabled
Power Down Enable = Enabled
Power Down Mode = Channel

Situation Remedies
If you have encountered this error and would like to fix your computer, here are some remedies for each situation:
CMOS Battery Not Functioning Properly: If you suspect your CMOS battery is not functioning properly you can easily change it. Before changing your battery, reboot your computer to make sure that the error still exists. If it does, go into your CMOS and write down all of the settings. If all settings are lost, you can usually get them from your computer manufacturer. Now locate the battery and remove it, you might need to consult your computers manual or tech support to remove your battery. Take down the CMOS batteries information such as volt, size, etc. Once you have your new battery, you can replace it and reenter your CMOS settings. If your battery was the cause of the CMOS Checksum Bad Error, you should have remedied the problem.
Your BIOS has Been Updated (either by you or possibly a virus): If your BIOS has been updated recently, your CMOS settings may have become reset. Make sure that the values entered in the BIOS are correct or simply reset them to the default settings. If you believe that a virus updated your BIOS settings, run a virus scan and make sure that the BIOS settings are back to the default.
The Computer Was Shut Down Improperly: Sometimes when running MS Windows, if you shut down your laptop or desktop without first properly shutting down your operating system it will corrupt the CMOS settings causing the CMOS Checksum Bad Error. You can easily avoid this error by making sure that you completely shut down your computer before turning off the power. Usually this entails going into the Start Menu/ Turn Off Computer/ Shut Down. If you received the error, shut down the computer properly, if this is the cause of the error, the error message will not return.

click this link or copy and paste it in your browser address bar:
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P5SD2-VM&p=1&ft=3&os=29#P5SD2-VM-0515.zip
In the most recent (top) listing, click the GLOBAL that does NOT say DLM at the end (the second GLOBAL link)
Make note of where the file is being saved!
Unzip the file using winzip or power archiver or some such utility (Depending on your OS, Windows may simply open it for you)
Copy the extracted file P5SD2VM.ROM either to a floppy, or burn it to a CD.
Put the disk with the file on it in the appropriate drive and reboot the system.
The motherboard should now repair itself, and give you the latest bios in the process.
This will fix your system, but I'd get a program called FIX-CIH from http://www.grc.com/fix-cih.htm
Run that program to make sure you aren't infected with the CIH virus (one of very very few viruses that will kill your BIOS like your is) Just to be sure it wasn't a virus that did it.
That should FixYa.
