The volume and Mute buttons on the computer don't

The keyboard's additional keys need driver software in order to operate properly. If you have the drivers at hand just install them. Otherwise look for a folder named SWSetup on your local drive, HP usually keeps the drivers in that folder, and install your drivers.
If you can't find both accessible go to this page and download your specific driver.

I can't get the sound any louder than low.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

This is a common problem with Dell laptops. The simpliest, cheapest solution would be to purchase a pair of amplified headphones or speakers. usually, headphones made for ipods are amplified. This will increase the sound dramatically.

Dell Inspiron8600 display is blank. It begins

If you get the boot image on your screen then you screen is working correctly unless there's something that you not explaining. You can try an ext. monitor if you think it is something related to your LCD screen not woring during boot up. If the ext monitor not showing your laptop to boot then you have problem with your OS and may need to get it repaired or restored.

Cd.rom will not work

When the computer is turned on check in my computer to see if the cd rom is detected (d: or e: etc....) if so right click on it and select eject and see if your cdrom pops open.
If this happens then it looks like it could be a dirty lens and a simple cheap lens cleaner may work.
If the drive is not found in my computer then it could be a faulty cdrom.

Dell Inspiron 8600 now missing the battery meter

Click here and click the link to download all on the upper right hand side of the page. Instruction are embedded in the page and the download themselves for each individual download, including what they do and so on...... Unzip and installation of all these is highly recommended to restore your system back to factory functionality......i assure you that the battery meter shortcut is not the only function missing from your system.....you just haven't found the rest yet, and may never need them for that matter, but still i do recommend installing all the downloads that are available for your device, and don't worry, if there is anything that needs to be overwritten during installation, let if overwrite...you'll be just fine..... so there ya go, sry i cant walk you through the whole process but there wouldn't be enough room for me to spell it all out on here.

GOOD LUCK AND PLS RATE THIS POST!! :D

Code of authenticity on the bottom of my computer

Are you trying to get the windows key code?
you can use a utility to read it from the registry, something like Keyfinder available for free at:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

If you bought this unit from a retail and the OS was preinstalled, be aware that you will need to CDs provided by the manufacturer to reinstall using that key. The OEM key will not work with a retail version of Windows.

I have a pc dell xp windows and everytime i try to

You definitley have a virus/malware issue. This is not unusual with rundll32.exe files. rundll32.exe is a legitimate and needed file within Windows. The key is "unknown file associated" which is an indication that a new file with similar name has been inserted onto your PC.

My suggestion would be to boot into safe mode without networking and run your anti-virus software as Administrator.

Missingg ethernet card driver for Inspiron 8600.

Hi,

Go to the dell site and check the support options for your computer. There should be a driver download section, and in there you shoud find the correct network driver. In theory, it's as simple as that to sort integrated component driver issues.

Monitor wil not display

HI...

The easiest and most foolproof method for testing your LCD Screen is to hook up the laptop to an external monitor. If the video output on the external monitor looks fine, this means that the problem is with the video connector, with your LCD panel itself, or with the circuitry that turns on the LCD.
What do we do? It all starts with disassembling the notebook. Find the video connector on the system board (if the video is integrated on the motherboard) or on the video card that is attached to the motherboard. Try re-connecting the cables. You may as well locate the display connector on the back of the end LCD panel. Re-seat that one too. This way you can be sure that the problem is not related to connections.
image002.jpgEvery now and then the switch located on the system board that turns the backlight of the LCD on and off can become stuck. If this is the problem then your LCD never powers on. There's a little switch that detects whether the screen of your notebook is open or closed. That's the one we're talking about. Try to push it down and hope it gets unstuck.
Disassembling the laptop to unstick this switch is an option, but sometimes you can get away with not taking it apart. Try lightly hitting that plastic switch. But wait, this isn't the only possible cause, unfortunately. Re-seat the other connectors and cables that are present around the LCD panel and the video on board (including the inverter).
All of the aforementioned can usually be fixed, but let's not forget about the screen itself. Sometimes the screen can become defective. Here we'll enumerate a few scenarios where the screen has gone bad and must be replaced: lots of vertical lines or bands appearing on the screen; half of the screen works fine but the other half stays either black (blank) or really white; the output on the screen looks blurred and changes to different patterns; and so forth. These are almost always signs of a defective LCD panel.
However, if the output on the screen is nothing but garbage, such as incorrectly placed special characters, shadows around the characters, unknown randomly placed marks of different colors, distorted or ugly-looking geometric patterns, or tiny little white dots all over the screen, then these are almost always due to the system board or the connection between the LCD panel and the video card. Re-seat the connectors.
All in all, these are some of the most common hardware failures. Nevertheless, before we finish this part, let's name some of the others that will be covered in the second segment of this guide, along with the promised system instability troubleshooting strategies. These include clicking noises coming from the HDD, which is the well-known symptom of a dying HDD. Thus, back up your important data as soon as possible and order a replacement. Overheating is also discussed thoroughly.

Good luck !!!

Inspiron 8600 does not charge batteries. Power

hello

As you have mentioned that power supply is working fine then there can be only two things.

  1. Your charging module in the mother board is malfunctioning. And you cannot replace a particular module, you have to replace whole motherboard for it.If your system is under warranty Dell will do it for free.
  2. The connector which connects the battery with the mother board is gone.
hope this will solve your problem

Thank you.
