Maintenance error 46 on DCP-115c

It is cheap printer, and if used with after market inks, it provides really cheap alternative to more expencive cousins. I provided this solution several times and still works, error 46 on brother printers/faxes usually indicate full buffer ro absorbtion pad.

Please follow instructions below:

First, try to establish if this really is full absorbent pad, remove power cable from the back, wait 20sec, press menu/set key, insert power mains - in most brother printer/faxes this will display machine error code. if this is code 46, you are on the money, your absorbent pad is full (not necessarily, only counter is showing it as such in most cases).

We will asssume that counter is showing full and therefore reset it again to zero:

1. after machine code is displayed, key in "80",
2. go down with arrow key till you find "purge counter"
3. type "2783" this should set counter to "0"
4. press "stop/exit"
5. press "9" twice
6. remove cartridges from craddle
7. remove power cord
8. insert power cord back
9. switch on printer
10. insert cartridges back

If that do not work, then maybe really you need to replace absorbent sponge... it is done under warranty and if not technician in service centre.

If you want to do it yourself, remove cartridges, remove front cover and on the right hand you will have "offending" sponge/felt . Either clean it (absorbent, lint free tissue is fine to remove excess first, then few drop of water and repeat draining process with tissue several times, at least till "cake" from the top is removed. Be aware that ink may leak and spoil your table underneath, I use several layers of newspaper and on top butchers paper to protect my bench if I do that. Best of course will be to replace the sponge with new one.

After that you still need to reset counter. in another way - follow steps...

Hope this will solve your problem and make your printer happy again :-)

Printer not used for about

Unfortunately, I fear your printer may be beyond recovery, you see unless you especially prepare your inkjet for storage. If this isn't done, the old ink, dries inside the lines in the printer and it is this that stops it from going, and makes it very difficult to get it going again. usually they are not recoverable, one must strip down and clear all traces of ink from all tubes etc, it is a mission.
I think you will need a new printer.

I have a rather old

Take a cue tip with some alcohol to the place where the cartridge meets the carriage. It may loosen up the nozzles so it will print.

Product scans but then I can't find the result

The first thing I recommend you try is a new data cable. Scanners require bi-directional communication and will fail even when the printer works. Similarly go for a direct connection instead of using a print server or USB hub. (I have a scanner that had the same problem - the preview scan started but no image saved due to a bad cable.) If you are using a parallel port connection, make sure that bi-directional communication is set for the port (in the BIOS). If you use a USB to parallel port adapter, make sure it is a bi-directional (for scanner) adapter.

I hope this helps.

Card reader not workng

Since the problem is intermittent, you need to isolate the problem.

Try to connect your card reader into different USB port of your computer. Or might as well, try to connect it to a different computer, if same problem occur, then the problem could be the memory card or the card reader itself.

Try to remove and re-insert the memory card to the card reader. If you get the same problem, try to insert a known working memory card to the reader. This will let you know if the problem is the card or if it's the reader.

Thank you and good luck!

Dcp 115c printer

Hi,

The nozzle may be blocked. So take out the colour cartridge and place its nozzle in a bit of water for about 10 mins. Bring it out and dab the nozzle with folded paper. If the tissue is blotted with the three colour it means you have unblocked the nozzle. Try now to print after returning the colour cartridge. You may need to repeat to get good results.

Thank you!!

Printer keeps saying can t clean ink

Procedure how to reset the error 46 error (unable to clean). This can be done on every Brother inkjet machine with a numeric keypad.

- Machine off
- Switch on the machine while holding down the “menu”button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode.
- press 80
- press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx”
- press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000”
- press the "stop" button.
- press “99” to exit the maintenance mode.

Now you are able to print again, but actually your ink absorber box is now full with ink. Ink flooding can happen if you don’t replace this ink box!
