I removed the toshiba mk8025gas

Make sure it's connected to a USB2.0 port. Drive should be formatted as FAT file system. Use the disk management utilities in the ADMIN tools from the control panel. Try checking out the following site, shows how to dissemble the AV400 and prepare and replace the drive. The utility swissknife, you'll have to find on the internet . You may also try UBCD4windows bootable cd (free SPsp2 bootable cd) just google it. Good luck. http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=14218&p=337368

SMART HARD DRIVE FAILURE

You can recover your data in this way.
Remove the hard drive and put it into an enclosure.Plug it into another computer as a slave. Then you can copy your files on it.
If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it,you can recover data on it with data recovery program to avoid losing your data.I have succeed recover data from crashed hard drive with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus attack etc.You can get it here: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryprofessional.htm After you recover your data, you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.
If the hard drive can't be detected, you can try this way.Put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in the freezer for overnight. Then while it's still cold plug it into the computer and you may be able to view it in 'my computer'. And if needed, run the recovery program to recover your data on it.
If it fails, you will have to go to a recovery office where supply data recovery service but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money and whether they can recover data is not guaranteed.

Replace laptop hard drive or replace laptop. Current 80 GB Toshiba?

It depends on what you run on this laptop ..but if you only run windows xp ..you do not need a larger hard drive ..and if you only need space to store data ..you can just get a usb external hard drive and avoid the trouble ..The hard drive will be fully usable in other computers too and this is the advantage if you will upgrade in the future to another one with high performances ..If you have at least a 1.6 cpu on it ..and 1 G of ram memory and you think you may run windows 7 ..you can upgrade it to a larger hard disk ..but remember that this one runs on ata ..and I'm not sure it worth the trouble .If you have at least 1 G of ram memory on it you can run windows 7 with this hard disk too ..but you will probably have to change the partitions configurations and make C drive at least 40 G so to have space to run it proper..let me know if you have other thoughts related with this matter ..and i will answer it ..Please rate my answer to help my activity here ..thank you ..!

I am trying to insert my toshiba 80 gig mk8025 gas

You may just have the drive upside-down.
flip it over and it should fit...
Unless of course you got the SATA rocketfish, because your drive is PATA (ATA-6)
this is actually more likely the case!

The hard drive is beyond repair.
To get your laptop working again, replace the hard drive with a new one, install Windows on the new hard drive, plus the laptop's device drivers and install your programs.

Hi, my Sony Vaio starts

vita_london

It is possible that the hard drive is not Sony brand hard drive as they do not manufacture there own hard drives. As for the message that you are getting it is because the hard drive is failing over to many sectors. With the drive being 4 years old this would be just the drive wearing out. So I would recommend you back up your data ASAP and replace the hard drive. You should be able to replaces it with the same type of drive. You just need to know if you need a PATA or SATA drive. The link below will help you figure that out.

No hardrive detected

Hello,

If your system is showing 'No Hard Drive Detected Problem', a lot of things might be wrong, but I will give you a few steps you can try out to troubleshoot it.

First, try to make sure the drive is firmly connected to the interface where it is meant to be seated,

Then in the BIOS, make sure that it is detected and is selected as one of the drives in the boot sequence, preferrably as the first boot device.

If this does not work, select it as a second drive and get a software called NTFS DOS Professional.

It is a software that works like magic when it comes to hard drive repairs.

If you know any other hard drive utility, apart from this, you can also use it. I just recommend this personally because that is what I use.

Insert it into your PC, start up your CD-ROM and let your system boot from CD-ROM.

It works through DOS, and it should be able to help you with it.

If it is not even detected in the BIOS at all, then I'm afraid, you might need to change your hard drive completely.

Hope this helps you out.

Good luck
