oven won't heat

My oven is actually a RBS305PDB6 It was working fine, until I used the self clean mode for the first time. It heated and cooled nicely, but now the oven won't heat the broiler won't work either, and it won't self clean again. The fan is running when I turn it on. I tried resetting the circuit breaker and still no luck.

I have EXACTLY the same problem, occured today 9/25/07. Model RBS305PDQ16. At least I know I am not crazy... You know when Ronald Regan was President the CIA analysts assured him that the Soviet Bloc was ready to crumble because the people were constatly complaining that "nothing seened to work anymore." ...must have included ovens...

whirlpool accubake oven problem

our whirlpool accubake oven turns on the broiler when we press the bake button. We saw the work-around solution on your site----very helpful---but, what part needs to be replaced to fix the problem?

Hi All,

I tired the delayed bake work around and it didn't help me.

So, being a trained scientist... I know just enough to be dangerous! Here's what I learned. (imitate me at your own risk. This thing is on a 220V circuit at 30A... you or someone else in your house could get badly killed if you do something wrong. You definitely want to send small children to the movies, or at least to bed before trying this!)

First, I turned the self-clean on for 60 seconds to see if both elemets were working. The broiler got bright red but the bake element didn't. The door unlocked as soon as I shut it off, so I could I touched an ice cube to a few insided parts to see how hot they were. The bottom of the oven was barely warm, but the baking element instantly melted and sizzled my ice cube.

Good enough for me: Both heating elements are working, so it must be a controller problem.

Next I turned the power off at circuit breaker, and double checked that the oven was dead. I pulled it out of the wall and removed the top sheet metal cover. Inside I found a red plastic envelope containing a "Tech Sheet". It has a schematic diagram, plus a table that explains the error codes and what to do about them. Be sure to read all the dire warnings and the bit about "For Service Technician's use only" before deciding that you are foolish enough to do anything with it. :-)

I undid and inspected the connector for the printed ribbon cable from the keypad to the controler circuit board. (I happen to know, being a scientist, that 90% of all problems in the universe are caused by bad contact) I didn't see anything obviously wrong, so I reassebled it carefully, making sure the ribbon was fully seated.

I then powered the thing up. It said PF for power failure. I pressed cancel for 5 seconds and it said F0E0 which means no pre-existing fault was detected.

I then pressed bake, and lo and behold the damn thing baked! :-)

I'm not certain it was bad contact, since the other 90% of the world's problems are caused by software. It's entirely possible that power cycling was this thing's idea of CTRL-ALT-DEL. Maybe someone can try flipping the breaker off for 10 minutes without taking anything apart, to see if that clears the problem?

I also have no idea how long this will stay fixed....

Has anyone tried calling Whirlpool? 1-866-698-2538, M-F, 8 am - 8 pm Local Market Time, Sat. 8:30 am - 5 pm Local Market Time, according to their website.
Stay tuned... if I'm not back, the thing is still baking... :-)

I have a Whirlpool MOD. RBS275PDB17 single electric self-cleaning oven; although the manual is generic, it specifies, "When the cycle is completed and the oven cools, "End" will appear on the lower oven display and "LOCKED' will disappear" and "To Stop Self-Clean any time: Press UPPER/OFF, LOWER/OFF or OFF/CANCEL. If the oven temperature is too high, the door will remain locked. It will not unlock until the oven cools." Has your oven had time to cool?

It sounds like the electronics has failed and you may get stuck buying a replacement board. Such is progress . . .

Things to check- The screw in fuses, they are usually the 30 amp fuses for the oven. Next is the clock assembly, often these clocks will have the words "push for manual" or "turn for manual", this will put the clock back into the normal operating mode rather than the automatic mode. Next, you may have to remove the power and check for any burnt wires. If all checks ok, you will have to test the selector switch and oven control.
Oven temp problems: Temperature is too low possible trouble makers, blown oven fuse, bake element is out, burnt wire, oven probe clips, oven temp control, oven temp sensor.
Temperature is too high in the oven possible trouble makers, oven temp control, oven relay ( if used ), oven probe clips, oven temp sensor, shorted wire.
These oven probe clips often rust off and the oven temp probe hangs down, or touches the oven wall giving false temperature readings to the oven control.

oven door won't stay tightly shut

No where in the manual does it show how to adjust or tighten the hinges, I took the door off and reinstalled so they are in correct position?

Oven door hinges are not adjustable, assuming you have fitted the door back correctly, and it is still not closing properly, then the only solution is to replace the door hinges.

my whirlpool electric oven keeps resetting the temperature from 250 back to 160 degrees?

it has had a new heater element fitted already and works fine, I think it may be the thermostat, it sometimes works ok then all of a sudden starts playing up again, as said above it resets itself to 160degrees and starts flashing like it would when you initially start the temperature setting programme.

If it keeps resetting it this way, I would suggest that you get it repaired. Things like this can be difficult to fix on your own. It might be possible to do it by looking in a manual, but it might just be easier to get someone to repair it. I hope you are able to get it fixed, since this is a pretty significant problem! http://www.allapplianceservice.biz/Services/

This is not a good code and usually means the electronic control will need replacing. Try disconnecting the power for a couple minutes and if the error comes back, the control is bad and will need replacing.
