Danby DDR2506 Dehumidifier - Page 9 Questions & Answers
I have a Danby DR401
There are 5 basic, but solvable reasons for what you described.Numbers 1 & 2, you have already addressed.
1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%.
2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.
3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.
4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.
5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air
temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor, level
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.
If
none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the
compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are
5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it
can happen.
Hope this helps you to further troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

It runs, but will not
There are 5 basic, but solvable reasons for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2.
1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you have a mechanical unit,
set the control knob on Maximum.

If
none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the
compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are
5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it
can happen.

The rings on the back
The rings on the back, that you are referring to are the cooling cools. There are several things that can cause this problem.
1. The air intake filter needs to be removed and cleaned.
2. Obstructed air flow. Maintain at least a 12" to 18" of clear air space around the entire unit.
3. The cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. You ca do this by wiping the of with a rag
moistened with warm water and then wiped dry. Then a apply a light coating of WD40.
4 The air temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level. This is particularly true in base-
ment applications. Dehumidifiers do not work well at temperature at or below 40 degrees F.
Unless it's a Low Temperature model, which are designed for basement applications. In your
case, if you're using it in a basement, raise the unit up off the floor onto a sturdy table, counter
top, etc, that's strong enough to handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water.
Mechanically, there may be a small leak in one of the cooling coils, which is allowing refrigerant gas to escape and it's frosting the coils. If none of the above solves the problem for you, than I would suspect the refrigerant leak. In which case, it's less expensive to buy a new unit, than it is to repair it
I hope this helps you to troubleshoot & solve the problem..

We recently purchased a darby
I beleive there is some confusion about the Timer Mode. It can only be set to turn the unit OFF after a selected time period. For example: It's 6pm you want the unit to turn OFF at 10pm. You press the Timer button on the unit itself, in increments, until it reaches 4 hours. At 10pm the unit will turn OFF. As a safety feature, it does not have the capability to turn the unit ON at a selected time and then OFF again. In the interim, until you get really familiar with all the functions of this model, use the control pad on the unit, rather than the remote control.
I hope this helped you understand what the timer does and how to activate & set it.

My Danby R410A dehumidifier is
The
compressor relay's purpose is to start the compressor. A faulty relay
can result in the compressor failing to cycle on. The relay is accessed
from the lower rear of the humidifier.
Before testing a compressor relay, unplug the refrigerator to avoid
an electrical shock hazard. Also, if the compressor uses a capacitor,
it must be discharged
first to avoid the risk of electrical shock.
The compressor relay can be accessed by removing the terminal cover
box. The cover is held on by tension or with a retaining clip.

Does'nt not take the moister
Is the coil cooling? If not it may have leaked the freon out or have a bad compressor. Dehumidfiers work in the same way an air conditioner does to condense moisture out of the air. If the coils don't cool, they will not work.

Where is the filter and wath does it looks like ?
On your model the filter & the filter frame will either be on the right and side of the unit (as you're facing it) right behind the louvered front. It will look like a pull out door, which is really what it is. If yours is not there, remove the bucket and look up just inside the bucket holder and you should see the filter frame. If you have never removed it, there will probably be a piece of tape on it, left from shipping. Remove the tape if necessary and pull the filter frame down. If you clean it, use either a vacuum or wash it with warm water and dish washing liquid. Rinse well and allow it to completely dry, before reinstalling. Never operate the unit without the filter installed.
Turn the unit OFF and unplug it before attempting any of the above.
Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

. What does P1 on the LED screen mean?
P1 indicates that the air intake filter needs to be removed and cleaned. Turn the unit OFF and Unplug it from the wall, before removing the filter. If you wash the filter in warm soapy water (dish washing liquid is fine), be sure it's thoroughly rinsed and dried, before reinstalling it. Never operate the dehumidifier without the filter installed. Once the filter has dried, reinstall it. Plug the unit back in and Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. If necessary, you can reset the settings, you originally had the unit set on.
Hope this helped you.

Dehumidifier is leaking from
Yes it should if it is a window unit. How long it runs depends on how much room space you want cooled and what size unit you have. If you live in an area that has high humidity you will want it to run more often to remove the humidity. Some units have a setting so that it is running all the time to circulate air, but the compressor is only on when the air is too warm.
