Hampton Bay Brookdale ceiling fan model 761-567.

I'm having the same issue, which is how I found your complaint. I googled the issue and your problem was the first to pop up. I have no idea how to fix it and I am wondering if you had any luck, or if you just went out and bought a new one?

A switch is just a break between the power source and the fan, so leave the dimmer on high and use the remote to operate the fan.

CHAIN SNAPED THAT SWITCHES THE FANS DIRECTION

You will need to remove the fan, being sure to turn off power first. Then open it up and remove the old switch, and install the new switch. If you take the old one into a Home Depot or similar store they can help you match the switch. There are many different types, so take the old one in. I can't speak to the specific steps, but it should be pretty simple once the headache of dismounting the fan is over.
