To remove "missed calls" on phone, press and hold "OFF" button on handset. This should remove "missed calls" message.

Instructions for registering additional new handsets on VTech Model DS6151: Place additional handset on main base. Press HOLD on main base and # on handset. Asks you to de-register. Press no. Registration of additional handset takes place.

Maybe you handset was registered to another base at one time or another. The mmessage out of range will show up also if it cant see the base.


If you have a DS6101 you can manually deregister the handset without having the original base it was registered too by doing the following steps:


Called the manufactuer.... To do this enter on the handset you want to deregister:

*331734# and press (Menu Key# 1 - top uppermost left button that is unmarked).


This will put the handset back into the register mode.

Unplug the main phone from the wall outlet, next unplug the phone line from the wall plug, let the phone sit for at least 30 minutes or more, the longer the better. If that fails! remove the coily cord from the handset and main base, replace it with another you might have around. If that fails the only option is to take the handset apart and check the two wires going to the speaker that goes to your ear, if the wire looks good, it is possible the speaker is bad.

I came on here to look for the same solution but it didn't take my comment and so I am sharing what I did from my research, If it says Not registered, press and hold the page button on the base and in about 4 seconds the In Use button will be lit. Release the page button and press the # button. You may have to try this a few times. The first time I tried it, it said Failed. I took the battery out, unplugged the phone from the wall and started all over again. Good luck.

long hold on hash key, had this prob and just fixed it on my vtech :)

I had this happen suddenly on 2 out of 3 handsets with a DS6151 base and DS6101 handsets. Well, what happened is there was no dial tone on either of the 2 handsets on either of the 2 lines and a message appeared on the display "Unable to Call Try Again" after some delay, if Line1 or Line2 button was pressed.

Oddly, the 2 that did not work were the ones normally on "extension" chargers and the 1 that did work was the one on the base unit. That caused me to suspect the base unit .. which it still may have been but the solution was NOT. And, also odd, the handsets seemed to still be synched with the base unit in many respects.

Cycling the power on the base unit did nothing.
These are fairly new units and battery life is generally much longer in my experience.

The Solution:
- Remove the battery from the handset that doesn't work properly.
- Re-install the same battery.
Whatever was wrong, this reset it and the handsets started working again.
