These are the steps and codes for yout to set your RCA remote to your Sony TV.

1. Set the "Mode Switch" to TV.

How new is the universal remote? A lot of the time, older universal remotes are unable to control newer tvs (like most lcds). I would recommend buying a new remote or contacting the tv's manufacturer to see if they can provide one specifically for your particular set. Good luck!

I still have not figured out how to program the exact code in the crk76DBL1.

However, I did figure out how to use the code search for the TV

1) Turn on the component you want to control (TV, VCR, DVD)
2) Press and hold BOTH the component button on the remote and the On-Off button
3) The On-Off button remains lit. Now press Play (The On-Off button will blink)
4) If, after five seconds, the component does not respond, continue to press the PLAY button every five seconds until the component turns off.
5) When the component turns off, press and release the REVERSE button, then wait two seconds to see if the component turns on again.
6) To save the new code, when the illuminated ON-OFF button turns off, press and release the STOP button.

Hi, I work for Directv in the technical department... it is normal for the error message you listed to display on the tv when programming the remote. All you have to do is completely ignore whatever it says on the screen and just complete the remote programming process. I will summarize the instructions for you: First, press and hold mute and select until the green light above the mode switch on the REMOTE flashes twice(can take about 5 seconds of holding down before the green light flashes), then enter your 5 digit code using the keypad on the remote(no matter what it says on the screen-still ignore), after entering the code the green light should immediately flash twice again(that confirms the code was entered correctly), once that happens try pressing the volume up button on the remote, if volume bar displays on the screen increasing the volume then that is the correct code. Once that is all done and volume then works from directv remote slide the mode switch on remote back over to the left under DTV symbol and use remote as normal. Once you change channels or pretty much press any button on remote that is Directv related the error messages will disappear. I usually just press the exit button on the remote in irectv mode to clear the error messages. Hope this helps. :)
