Yes lg external dvd drive would work with just about any latest linux distribution, if your user account is a member of the plugdev linux groupthe drive will automatically appear on the desktop after you plug the drive from the usb slot

you can verify the plugdev group members by issuing a command cat /etc/groups from the command terminal
user@localhost# cat /etc/groups | grep plugdev

if your current username is not a member, you add by issuing a usermod command
user@localhost# usermod -g plugdev username

No, the dvd player is totally separate. you will not need to tune your TV, just plug the DVD player in via a scart or an HD socket, and run through your channels till you find which one it is on :)

Unfortunately, most drivers for linux are already included in linux when you install it. Most of the devices I have ever tried with linux works when I plug it in. I don't usually have to install drivers. Depending on what linux you have, the device should pop up in devices mounted or media. I would do a search for the device first because I'm almost certain linux can detect it. I think that you just can't see it because it probably didn't pop up on your desktop. Start from root and look under places like /mnt or /cd0. I bet you will find it. If you can't then let me know and I'll walk you through.

Try reseating your IDE cables. or Assuming you have powered down and restarted and then click start button\control panel\system\hardware tab\device manager and see if there are any yellow/red flags that might give you some information.

If all else fails go to the cd drive in device manager and uninstall the driver and follow directions, choose automatic install when it gets there. Then do the same with the cd/dvd and see if things work.

This could be a driver issues or is it software .

Remove device and software first reboot then reinstall
if you have the disk then reinstall should be straight forward.

Try plugging in the device ,
and use the device manager for the drivers update install.
(while in device manager-select device rightclick and update)

refer the problem to the retailer you purchased from,
should be still under wanrantee if its a new one,
there supplier should honor the warantee no problems....

TRY A -R DL, or try a slower speed or different media type. some media are not as good as others and readers have problems reading them. I SUGGEST you use a different media or try a -R or a +RW
