Although its on a T60. Sometimes the clicking works, sometimes it does not, sometimes both mouse buttons act as the 'right' or secondary mouse button. I have been to the BIOS during startup and set things to default, but it reverts back to the weird setting. Also, played around with the mouse settings in control panel but to no avail. Any help will be very appreciated.
Mouse pad gone bad. You need to repair it if you can,
Best option is to take at nearest technician or Repair shop if it is under warranty still.

When I turned my computer on this morning there was a vertical line running down the middle of my Lenovo T61 laptop. The line is there continuously. My warrenty ran out 6 weeks ago. Any feedback from you would be appreciated it. Thanks. Sue
You have a dead column of pixels. The only solution I'm afraid is to replace the LCD screen.
I'm sorry the news isn't good but can you take a moment and rate the solution as fixya even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear? Thanks! :c)

I have a IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T61. My laptop had been having problems with its fan (makes loud noises, overheats, then shuts off).
Whenever I reboot (or turn On from Off state), it says "Fan error" on a black screen with 2 beeps, then pause for about 3 seconds, then shuts off with 1 beep (doesn't even load Windows). This is why I usually just put the laptop to sleep rather than turn it off.
So, I restarted my laptop because Windows Update required me to, and the fan error problem showed up. I tried pressing random keys like F2, F12, "ThinkVantage", etc, but then somehow my display went totally black.
I opened up the laptop, but I'm pretty sure I didn't screw anything up (an experienced friend of mine was with me when I opened it up, but unfortunately he couldn't figure out the problem). I tried to looking up the fan problem, and found out it's a common "BIOS" problem, and you can bypass it by pressing Esc; now I realize why I was pressing all those random keys--I forgot it was the Esc key that did the trick.
I'm not even gonna bother to solve the BIOS problem as long as my laptop can run its basic features. But, my display is not showing at all. Any idea what could be wrong with my display? Possibly a loose connection/wiring inside the laptop? Maybe I accidentally disabled the laptop's display by hitting random keys?
Even if you replace the CPU now, You will still need to replace the defective fan.

forgot password how i defaul to factory settings
password for what? bios or windows?
if it's the windows password, press the f8 key before windows starts and choose safe mode, choose administrator for the username and then go to user accounts and remove the password for your account.
if it's the bios password, you have to strip the laptop and pull the bios battery on the system...it looks like a large watch battery but becarefull not to break anything.

Lenovo R61 beeps four times and according to manual has security chip problem. Does this mean replacing the motherboard and where can they be purchased.
assuming that u r a professional, the bios is not flashed in a wrong way n the ram(s) r ok..
check cmos battery & i/o cables/connectors r properly inserted..clean the teeth of ram(s) using a rubber to remove carbon coating n isopropyl alcohol, n resit it..
..well itz always better to hv a supervision of service center as they r sparsely available at the local market, we usually donot replace the system board as whole but try to repair using scraps n spares..
however, probably system board can ordered online: http://www.thinkpadmedic.com/listing.asp?PL=ThinkPad&CL=SB

Similar problem here...AC & battery lights on the T61p show. Hit power on button, caps lock lights up briefly, + fan starts, then nothing (and nothing shows on the screen). Tried removing battery and booting from dock and power cord. Strange.
Sounds like it needs the magic reset procedure. Press the power button 11 times and on the 11th time hold it for 30 seconds. Put the battery and power adapter in and retry it.
