My wd elements hard drive

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy a new W.D. device, through the W.D. web-site, at a significant discount.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

My new WD 320 GB

Hello there,

Please try to plug it into another USB port. There is a chance that your port could be faulty. If its not with the port, try to assign the drive letter if you are using windows. You have to right click on the My Computer icon, select Manage. Once on Computer Management, select Disk Management. Locate your WD drive and right click again. Finally, click on the Assign Drive Letter and follow the wizard.

Good luck!

My tv only has blue green and yellow color

All the colours on your TV are produced by mixing the THREE "primary" colours.
So, when ONE of those "guns" has stopped working, either fix the TV, or replace it,
whichever is less expensive.

The hard drive will not turn on, or begin to spin.

one idea would be to check the power cord to see if their is a break in the wire. With it plugged in the wall take an AC detector pen and run it alont the cord. It should chirp all the way to the hard drive where it plugs in.

I have seen other cords that have broken connections where the box is in the middle if the cord if you have a model that has this.

Just a suggestion, it may help.

I have a WDBAAR2500ABK-00 portable

Welcome to Fixya.

The Windows update may have caused this problem.It has something to do with the SATA cable in the enclosure and not the hard drive itself.

Sometimes doing the most basic troubleshooting works. Unplug the drive, wait for about 20 secs then plug it back in. Also, try restarting the computer couple of times while the HD is plugged See if the computer recognizes it. If these fails, transfer the hard drive to another USB enclosure.

Hope this helps.
Thank you!

Have iMac ejected hard drive so I could remove now

First thing I would do if the drive is connected via a usb hub connect it directly to the imac, then if that does not work try one of the other usb ports. If that does not work connect it to a usb port you know works and then go into the applications folder and then into the utilities forlder and open up disk utility. Once opened your hard drive should appear in the left hand box click on your external hard drive then go to the first aid panel and run verify disk and if any problems appear run repair disk. Hope this helps.
