The ice maker is not making any ice but the water

Hello,
Take off the back panel in the freezer. 1/4" screws. Use a nut driver or ratchet and socket with an extension.
2. Behind the frost is the evaporator and the defrost heaters. One heater in the middle and one at the bottom. They are glass tubes. If you can see the bottom heater that is great. If not use a hair dryer and defrost only the very bottom to expose the lower heater only.
3. Now in the refrigerator section at the top where the controls are, take off the long plastic piece to expose the timer. The timer should be on the right hand side and have a little circle that is slotted. Get a flat screwdriver and turn that timer slowly clockwise just until it clicks and the refrigerator turns off. This will put it into defrost.
4. Now look at that heater that you exposed and see if it glows and gets hot. If it does, then the timer is bad.
5. If the heater doesn't come on then go ahead and defrost the rest of the evaporator with the hair dryer. This will take a little while. Don't poke at the evaporator!!!
6. Once totally defrosted look at both heaters. They should look like clear glass and see a silver coil running thru them. If they look discolored at all then the heaters are bad. The heaters come as a complete assembly with the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator.
7. If the heaters look ok the only way to know for sure if they are bad is to check continuity with a meter on the plug at the end of their wiring harness. If you can check that then you can splice in a new defrost thermostat to solve the problem. However the best thing to do is replace the heaters and defrost thermostat . It is easy to install.
Follow these steps and this will solve your problem.
Good luck......

How do I replace the

The water filter cover is the round thing you see in the toe grille beneath the freezer. It will have a handle that should be horizontal. To remove the filter, turn the handle counterclockwise 1/4 turn, then pull it out. If you have trouble, try removing the toe grille so you can get better access to it. Once you have it out, be sure to take the handle off the old filter and on to the new filter. Be sure to remove the red cap on the pointy end of the filter, then stick the filter back where the old one was. Be sure to push firmly when you turn the filter clockwise 1/4 turn. After you have the filter installed, be sure to take a big glass and run the water for a few minutes.

Whirlpool side by side refrigerator

Yes, this is a symptom of the water filter in need of replacement, I would recommend starting with filter replacement, if that doesn't solve the problem, then I recommend checking the water supply at the back of the refrigerator. Shut the water valve off that is inline to the refrigerator, disconnect the tubing from the refrigerator at the water valve or the water tube couppler on the back of the refrigerator, have a container available so that you can run about 1 or 2 gallons of water out of the water supply tube in to the container to be able to see if the water pressure seems to be strong and if there is sediment or other foreign matter that needed to be flushed from the system. If water supply seems good then reverse the process to supply water back to the refrigerator. If water supply is not good you need to have a technician or plumber check into the water supply further.
GOOD LUCK !

Compressor will not start

I will give you the procedure to test the compressor.

Testing the compressor with no other wiring in the circuit is called the direct test method. Remove all electrical components from the compressor in order to perform this test.

The tester leads are marked RUN, START, and COMMON. Connect the common lead to the common terminal of the compressor, the start lead to the start terminal and the run lead to the run terminal. The other two leads are for a start capacitor (if used). When not in use, attach the two leads together and place the toggle switch in the OFF position. There
should not be any bare leads touching the cabinet. Plug in the tester and flip the switch to the start position. When the compressor starts, release the switch to the run position. If the compressor is operative, it will continue operating on the run windings. Ifthe compressor fails to run, the compressor is defective and must be replaced.
