You will need to reformat the GoGear in Windows Media Player, but do a firmware upgrade first - open the Philips Device Manager and click on the Update tab. Then click the update button. After the firmware upgrade is done, open windows Media Player.
REFORMAT FOR WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER - Erases Everything: Connect your GoGear to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Philips Go Gear SAXXX" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything, and make your player properly read in Windows Media Player.

DRM is so that an MP3 cannot be copied. It is Digital Rights Management, basically so that you can only use it with systems, like your player, that make sure it isn't stolen. It is used very little these days since Apple took DRM off of iTunes files, but it is quite annoying and is just that, copy protection.

Hi catie0077...
Thats becausethe tunes that you download are probably Itunes, and Itunes has a DRM on all movies/music/music videos.
What that means is the music will only work when they are in Itunes or are on other Apple products, like Ipad,Ipod, etc.
You will need to convert those songs from ACC to MP3 or WMA before they will play on your MP3 player.
You can get a free file converter at the following webpage:

How do you snyc from i tunes onto a go gear
Hi there. This is impossible as iTunes is a software produced by Apple for Apple products therefore iTunes will only be able to sync to Ipods, Iphones and Ipads and not to your Philips GoGear.
Please use the normal My Computer>Removable Device>respective folder such as music to transfer your files.
Please rate and comment, thank you.
Most of the songs that
This is due to the DRM (Digital Rights Management) of songs you have purchased through iTunes that are not iTunes+ (DRM Free Files). These Files show up in iTunes as AAC files and have the extension .m4p. These files will not play on any other type of player than an Apple iPod, or iPhone etc. They must first be converted to standard mp3 files. This can be achieved several ways:
1) Burn the songs to CD then re-import them as MP3 Files and copy those files to your device (time consuming)
or
2) Create an MP3 Version of the song within iTunes which is fast and easy:
step 1: Open iTunes -> Preferences
On the General Tab you will see "Import Settings" near the bottom of the window under "When You Insert a CD". Click the button "Import Settings"
Now change Import Using: to MP3 Encoder
Click OK. Click OK again to close the Preferences window.
step 2: Now back in iTunes you will see your music library. Highlight the song you want to play on your Philips MP3 player and click the right-mouse button to bring up the context menu.
You will see "Create MP3 Version" As an option on this menu.
step 3: Create MP3 Versions of the songs that will not play on your player
step 4: Copy the MP3 Version of the songs to your player. You can do this by highlighting the Newly Created MP3 Song and right-click "Show in Finder" or "Show File".
Drm license not available
You need to plug your mp3 into the computer you downloaded your music from to sync it up. Go to that website and if you dont get a pop up asking if you want to sync your device. You should do this at least once a week.
