RCA OPAL M4001 MP3 Player - Page 5 Questions & Answers
I dont knw how to upload music onto my RCA opal
Hello,
There's a manual for the M4001 in pdf format, it's under this link:
http://www.voxxsupport.com/images/manuals/M4001/media/M4001_UMEN.pdf
Making music transfers:
> Explore 'My Computer' and use the copy and paste or drag and drop method for music transfers: seeing the player as a removable disk.
note
Before you disconnect, when exploring the player, always go through the safely remove hardware icon in the right corner below of your computer screen. Left click the icon and left click again on the drive letter of your player: after the message the device is disconnected, it is safe to take out the USB cable. ( look in the manual for more info )
<
> Use Windows Media Player 10 or higher:
Right click in the upper bar of WMP10 or higher and see the Help function for how to transfer music.

RCA Opal won't hold charge
Make sure hold/lock is not engaged
Restart
Get the firmware upgrade from RCA website
If it is less than a year old, call RCA if these methods fail and get a replacement - hope you still have your receipt.
My mp3 player has one cd on it and windows media
Hi there,
Are you sure you do have format the HD, maybe you have bought this separate and therefore you need to format the HD (haddisk). If you have used before and suddenly it is not running, I suggest to run chekdisk on it! simply right click on the HD on "my computer" choose properties and select the second tab. Here you choose " check this disk for errors and mark all the fields. PS remember : format a drive will mean to loose all the things stored on it.
Hope this will help
If not then try to return here
Have a nice time over there

I've had two RCA OPAL MP3 players stop working on
Possible that the battery has run down, place it on charge for a longer time to check if it comes on, if it does repeat for some day to regain the power. Also consider to reset and if possibe check within the device for a cell replacement/ memory reset. connect to PC to detect and check for memory scan/ status. Hope this helps you out. Good day
RCA Opal M4002A Won't let me access playlist without shutting down
You need to re-image your firmware--it sounds like something is corrupted there. I have seen this behavior on other mp3 devices in the past; sometimes it requires special techniques to reset the device. Let's hope this isn't the case with your Opal--RCA was rude enough not to provide a handy reset procedure.
If you are daring you can try to replace the firmware files directly on your Opal using your son's files. You need to enable viewing of hidden files to do this: Tools-->Folder Options...-->View-->Show Hidden Files and Folders. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" and say "Yes" to the dialog that pops up. You can change these back later. For MacOS X, open Terminal, then type "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE", push Enter, Option-click (and hold) the Finder icon, then choose Relaunch.
Now, simply copy your Opal's files over to a local directory on your hard drive (this is a backup so you can't make things worse), and then copy your son's Opal files onto your Opal. The files should be as follows:
autorun.inf
playqueue.dat
pmp_usb.ini
RAMLIST.DAT
SETSTOR.DAT
STDBDATA.DAT
STDBDATA.IDX
STDBSTR.DAT
STDBSTR.IDX
All of these files should be placed in the root of the drive--in the folder on the Opal that also shows folders like "Audible", "FMRecord", "Music", "Pictures", etc. After the transfer, stop and unplug your Opal. Try to turn it on and see what happens. If it looks OK, try to hook up to it with Windows Media Player. If you are still having trouble, use the firmware from the RCA website--even if it is the same version. Failing that, you may need to have the device serviced or replaced.
Good Luck!
