Slow startup and overall operation

Well, there are a variety of reasons that can consequently drag down the performance of your Mac. Meanwhile, there are certain ways through which you can considerably speed up your Mac machine. For example, you can reset the browser settings to regularly clear useless caches and history, get rid of all unwanted widgets from the dashboard through the Dashboard control panel, remove unnecessary applications, find out & delete those duplicated files. However, if you prefer a more efficient way to speed up your Mac, try the following all-in-one Mac speedup tool as it can help resolve all issues in just a few clicks.Read more from: http://www.howtospeedupmac.com/Hope this helps!

White screen on startup

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you. When experiencing an issue with booting up to a white screen, you can perform several steps to attempt to resolve this issue.Option 1:• First, hold in your power button for approximately 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown, if your Mac is not already turned off. • Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .• Turn on the computer.• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the start up sound for a 2nd time.• Release the keys and allow the Mac to start up.If this procedure does not resolve your white screen issue, try this next option below. Option 2:-PMU RESET-The Power Manager is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is usually on the logic board of your Mac computer. It is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.• If the computer is on, turn it off.• Disconnect all the connections going into the Mac except for the Power cord.• Once all connections have been disconnected, remove the power cord from the Mac.• Wait 20 seconds.• Reconnect the keyboard, mouse and power cord back into the computer.• Press the Power button to restart the Mac computer.Let me know if either of these processes help resolve this white screen issue.Thank you.Regards,-The MacTechTrainer

Screen freezes when reloading system disc

Instructions

Back up any important files already on your G4's hard drive. A factory restore completely wipes the system of all files you've created so, if possible, make sure you have another copy of all your files, images, music, etc.

Connect your G4 to its charger. Restoring the computer is a delicate process that erases and reinstalls the most basic and important files of your system. If the computer runs out of battery before the restoration is complete, files may be damaged or left uninstalled. The result of this varies from having to restart the process completely to permanent dysfunction of your computer. Play it safe. Make sure you have plenty of battery left and the computer is plugged into the wall.

Locate your Mac OS X Install CD/DVD. If you have lost the original disc or never received one (a common problem when purchasing used computers), there are a few options to consider. The first is to ask around; if you have friends or family with a Mac computer they may still have their CD. It would be usable on your computer. If this option fails, look online for a download of the installation CD. Some sites offer installation CDs for all kinds of computers, including the G4.

Insert the install disc into your computer's disk drive. Once visible, click the "Install Mac OS X" button. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up your computer preferences and begin installation.

Select a destination disc for the installation. This is typically the "Macintosh HD" icon. Next, click "Options," and follow the rest of the on-screen prompts/instructions. After this, the software is installed. The computer should reset itself or can be manually reset by holding down the power button twice.

When my imac g4 tries to bootup it shows a folder icon

It sounds like the system is corrupted. What I would do is to get your instal disk and boot up holding down the c key on your keyboard. Once you have booted up go to the file menu and run disk utility to verify and repair the hard drive. Then go to the instal menu and instal a fresh system remembering to preserve the users data so you do not wipe anything. Hopefully this will work.

My imac g4 powers on but goes to a gray screen with flashing folder what can i do

The flashing folder means that the Mac cannot find its start=up folder. This is caused by one of two things:-1. The hared-disk is going or has gone bad and will need to be replaced. or 2. There is directory damage.Directory damage can be fixed in several ways.First of all try starting you computer with the system CD in the slot. After a few moments with the flasshing ! it will boot from the CD and ask what language you want to use as the computer is thinmking that you are going to reinstall the software.we aren't. Go to the next page and then from the menu bar select utilities. One of the utilities is disk utility, szelect that. After a little while you will get presented with a new window with your HD listed down the left hand side. It will have two entries - one will be Western Digital. Seegate or Fujitsu or so mething sim ilare and the second will be Macintosh HD (or whatever you have renamed it)If you see nothing - thern the HD is dead. (you have got everything backed up haven't you?). Click on the name of the drive and then c;lick the tab in the centre that says 'First Aid'.Now at the bottom of the window you will see four buttons, 2 on each side. Go to the one that says 'Repair HD' and then leave the machine for 10 minutes or so.If the drive has simple directory damage DU will fix it. If ity is complicated damage it will fail with a message.Try it again as sometimes it has to make more than one attempt. If however, after 3 goes it still fails then you need somethinmg stonger..There is a program we use called Diskwarrior. `Its sole purpose is tyo fix directories.Sometimes it can take a cople of hour to work, but in the last 10 years I've only had 2 machines where it hasn't been able to fix the damage.Post back how you get on. Thanks.

Imac working slowly

It sounds like your imac really requires a tuneup. You can do this using an application which can be downloaded for free from http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx select the version for your OS e.g. Snow Leopard, Lion etc. It is worth backing up up your machine first before running it. Start it up and it will first check the smart status of your hard drive then it will verify the startup volume (this can take a minute or so) click on the automation tab after reading the warning page. check under maintenance (repairs permissions and execute maintenance scripts) under rebuilding click on LaunchServices and Display of Folders' contents, under cleaning check all the boxes. And then click on execute. As it says this will take some time, possibly up to an hour, don't worry it will be worth it in the end. Once it is finished it will come up with restart or shutdown, press restart. Hope this helps.

My monitor on a macintosh Gf is black since setting the resolution toohigh. What can I type in or do to get the resolution to decrease even though I cannot ee the scren as it is black? Thanks, Rochel

You could try resetting the PRAM which resets various things to default status. You do this by holding down the following 4 keys together "cmd" "option" "P" "R" at the startup sound, keep them held down until it restarts and keep holding them down until you hear the startup sound 2 more times and then let go.If that does not work try booting up in safe mode by holding down the shift key at startup and then when it boots up change the resolution to one that works and then restart.Hope this helps.

Apple iMac G4 Mac Desktop - Screen turned Green!

Check your VGA connections (screen to desktop) then try a different screen (if available) if these fail then it might well be your graphics card, not unheard of with Apple, or so I'm told. Try another card if the machine allows that, preferably borrow or beg one as Apple stuff is expensive.
