Apple iMac G4 Desktop - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Makes beep sound but won't start
That beep sound is a code that lets you know that there is a problem and what the problem is. I suggest you count the beeps (it will probably be a series of 3 sets of beep to give you a 3 digit number) and either Google it or better still pop into your local Apple store.

Can't Relaunch Microsoft Outlook 11
Go to your User home (in Finder, make sure the sidebar is shown. Click on the icon with your user name). You should see a list of folders at the left - Applications, Desktop, Documents, ... Click on Library and open the Preferences subfolder. Scroll down the list of files until you get to "com.microsoft.Outlook.plist" or similar filename. Delete this file, then try opening Outlook 11. You will have to redo your user settings if it works. You may also have to re-enter your product key, but it's more likely Microsoft hides this somewhere else. If you just end up with more problems, drag the file back to where it was from the Trash.Explanation: although it's rare in OS X, preference files can be corrupted. For example, a power glitch while the hard drive is writing may cause garbage to be written across a file other than the one intended for modification. A corrupted initialization preference can stall or abort the application launch. Trashing (or at least removing from the Preferences folder) the bad file will force the application to make a new one from scratch.

You may have to contact Apple about this. I have a feeling that in order to prevent fraud, they have restrictions to prevent addresses that are not linked to the purchasing account being used to receive goods.Try using one of the other book making services (but again they may not allow delivery to addresses that didn't order the book).

First, check for dust buildup in the system, especially inside the power supply. Dust prevents proper heat removal, so the system gets hotter, necessitating higher fan speeds. Next, verify that the fans are actually running at full speed and not simply making a lot of noise because the bearings are worn out (unplug the computer, then gently wiggle the fan blades - if you feel slop, excess friction or grinding in the bearings, it's time for a new fan).Other possibilities are a shorted fan driver transistor or a bad temperature sensor, but these are less probable than the items in the first paragraph..
I got mac g4 just got face and ? on it, any have idea what going on it
Typically this is operating system corruption or a failed hard drive. If you can boot to your install media (CD, USB, or recovery partition) try a clean install. You could also try third party software solutions like Disk Warrior or Drive Genius (they supply bootable media) to fix the OS issues or check the disk for failures / corruption
I keep getting the waiting icon on my imac for no reason (as I am typing for instance). What should I do to stop this from happening.
It sounds like your imac really requires a tuneup. You can do this
using an application which can be downloaded for free from

select the version for your OS e.g. Snow Leopard, Lion etc. It is worth
backing up your machine first before running it. Start it up and it
will first check the smart status of your hard drive then it will verify
the startup volume (this can take a minute or so) click on the
automation tab after reading the warning page. check under maintenance
(repairs permissions and execute maintenance scripts) under rebuilding
click on LaunchServices and Display of Folders' contents, under cleaning
check all the boxes. And then click on execute. As it says this will
take some time, possibly up to an hour, don't worry it will be worth it
in the end. Once it is finished it will come up with restart or
shutdown, press restart. Hope this helps. Also you should keep the number of items on your desktop down to a minimum as this can affect performance as well.
