In OS X Lion or later, you can reset your user password with your Apple ID.
In Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier, follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, that administrator account may be used to reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above. These steps require an optical drive; if your Mac does not have an optical drive and you have a Mac OS X v10.6 Install disc, see below.
- Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc (one whose version is closest to the version of Mac OS X installed). Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager or the Startup Disk preference pane to select the Install disc.
- Choose a language, click the arrow button to continue,
- Mac OS X v10.6 or later: Choose Password Reset from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.4: Choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.3: Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu.
Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the disc yet.
Note: The default keyboard layout is U.S. English while started from the installation disc. If you use a keyboard layout other than U.S English, use the Input menu (the flag icon on the right side of the menu bar) to select the desired layout before typing a new password.
- Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
- Select the user name of your original administrator account.
Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually the root user. You should not confuse it with a normal administrator account.
Hope this helps.

How to remove a tilt/swivel base from an eMac?
Hi Robert.
Remove all connections from your E-mac including powercord. Put a folded blanket on the floor and lift the E-mac from the table and put it on the folded blanket so that the screen is on the blanket. Now you have acces to the bottom. Unscrew and take the swivel off. Be careful because eMac is the heaviest computer ever made by Apple. Good luck.
How to rightfully, reset an admin's password at start up log in.
If you know the current administrator password, you can change it by going to System Preferences: Accounts. If you've lost the password, you need Disk 1 of the OS install disk set. Start up the computer and put the disk in the optical drive. Restart the computer and hold down the option key immediately after the chime until a disk icon appears on the display. Wait a few seconds more until the optical disk icon appears. Click on this, then on the arrow to boot up from the install disk. When the OS installer appears, go to the Reset Password... item in the Apple menu and follow the directions there. (Select the administrator account from the pull-down menu.) If your install disk is not specifically for an eMac, or is made for an eMac with a different graphics chip, the display quality may be poor, but you should still be able to pick out what you need to see from the Password applet.
Mac isnt loading
If you're getting the blinking no folder icon, then the hard drive either needs to be re-seated or is dead. If you're not getting any power, then you'll need to troubleshoot the cable and power routes.

Flashing "?" when starting macbook..i
Can you be clear on the question:-
1>How did you try to Install disk start up.
2> is your harddisk been shown on Disk utility
3> are you using the right media for the same.
My Emac will not start up. It makes a high pitch
Put your system disk and power up holding down the c key on your keyboard. Once booted up go to the file menu and go to disk utility once open see if your hard drive is showing up. If it does run verify disk to to check whether your hard drive needs repaired if it does run the repair disk on it. That should get it up and running. However if your hard drive does not show up it is possible that the hard drive has failed. You would then need to replace the hard drive. Hope this helps.
I have a emac powerpc
If you hold down the mouse button, and then turn on the eMac, the drive will pop out, and you can put in a CD. Also, you can hold the F12 button to eject. Even if there isn't a dedicated Eject key on the keyboard, you can eject this way.
