Weber does not sell conversion kits due to liability reasons. Every part of the grill needs to be changed to convert. Cheaper to buy new grill, I have tried to piece together a parts list to convert, it is cheaper to buy new grill by the time you purchase all parts needed.

On the weber model you need to purchase the natural gas model. It will cost you alot more to buy all parts needed to convert. Weber doesnt want you to convert do to safety reasons. This is why they will only tell you you can't convert. Buy the right grill and save yourself a headache.

Each grill whether Natural Gas or Propane is tested and approved for that specific gas type.With Weber grills,as with many other brands, there's more to converting the grill from one gas type to another, than just changing the burner orifices. It also requires changing all the burners, because their venturi valves (air intake) are not adjustable.

Unfortunately, Weber does not encourage or approve converting their grills from one gas type to another. Nor, do they sell any conversion kits or parts to do this. It's all in the interest of safety. Even if you attempted so do it, the parts alone would cost you almost as much, if not as much, as the restocking fee the seller wants to charge you. From what you have said, I suspect you bought the grill online, rather than from a brick & mortar retail store.

Just behind the knob and valve there is a tube called a venturi that mixes propane and air and shoots it down to the burner. Your Venturi has a spider nest in it and is causing a flame just behind the knob. There is a special brush made to clean it out. https://www.google.com/search?q=bbq+venturi+brush

dicking around with parts from the manufacturer is expensive, time consuming and will prove frustrating since even if you get it to work it will fail again in no time. Instead, consider getting yourself one of those extended butane lighters at the grocery store. The ones with flexible lighter shafts work best in most applications.

They're very, very difficult to find, because Weber Grills ARE NOT approved to be converted from one gas type to another.

Question edited for clarity and spelling 'oraffice' to orifice. Never drill holes! The size of jets is set to very high tolerances by the factory. The burner tube on this is a P-shape which makes it problematical to clean out the spider nests that live in there in the winter. It is a simple system, the gas shoots from the jet and mixes with air in the entrance to the burner tube and burns through the hole in the top. The only other possibility is that the pressure regulator needs adjusting.
