Frost on Ice Maker shute

The freezer has an Ultra Ease II water filtration system. The ice maker has been accumulating frost at the opening of the shute at the bottom of the ice maker and at the opening of the shute on the door where the ice is supposed to come through. I am continually having to chip the frost (which turns to ice as well) off both the door and the ice maker. The temperature and humidity in the house hasnt changed much. The fridge is a year and a half old. Please advise.

Dtot, does the flap shut all the way? Sounds like you are drawing moisture from the chute. The flapper should seat so that no air is being drawn in. I have seen a number of these Whirlpools where the pin and spring retainer has broken off from the dispensor housing causing this problem. They use to replace the whole freezer door because the dispensor housing is not a servicable part. They have now come out with a kit to address this problem. This is not a fun job for a first timer. You may want to contact Whirlpool and inquire about the aforementioned. If this is your case, there is a good chance they will cover it. Catriver..post back.

Freezer is producing"snow" and freezer burning everything

I have a Whirlpool side by side that is just about 3 years old. Just recently the bottom of my freezer is filled with a solid block of ice and all the shelves, and ice maker are coverd with what my kids call snow. The food in the freezer also tastes frost burned. I have defrosted the freezer, cleared the drain (I think) and it worked good for about 3 days and the problem started again. Can I fix this? Thanks.

AFTER A DEFROST,HAVE A GOOD LOOK AT THE DOOR RUBBER. IT MUST BE 100% SEALED FOR A FREEZER. (SHOULD ALSO HEAR A SLIGHT VACUME WHEN DOOR IS SHUT WHEN UP NTO TEMP).ALSO MAKE SURE MOTOR IS SWITCHING OFF AT +/- 20C (TEMP).IF ALLOWED TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY TEMP WILL PULL DOWN TO CREATE EXCESS FROST.

Whirlpool Icemaker not working

I found two troubleshooting manuals, the Whirlpool "consumer services technical education group R-92", which is fairly good but misses some information, and a diagnostics link http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34 In the link, the test points are described. Using those, I've measure the voltage from L to N and found no voltage. This is supposed to indicate that the icemaker has no power. The optical boards are testing out just fine, so how come the icemaker has no power? I've also measured the wiring harness attached to the icemaker because there is something that looks like a fuse mounted by the heater, and all the wires measure good connectivity straight through the harness. I don't have a wiring diagram for the wires coming from the freezer, however. As always, any help is very much appreciated.

Willn2try. On the indoor ice maker the immitter board and receiver board will determine when to send power to the module. This is probably why you are not reading any voltage on your test points. When the thermostat closes, the emitter board sends out a infared pulse. If the path of the pulse is not blocked (like no ice in the bin) it will then send power to the module and start a cycle. Since you stated the optics are good, try testing for your voltage by holding down the left side receiver board, light switch and do not block the beam. You can bypass the thermostat by jump starting the cycle. Place a jumper in T&H, place the IM on a shelf out of the way of the boards. Close the door and unplug the refer for 30 seconds. Plug the refer back in and wait 45 seconds. When you open the door the cycle should be started. Cativer

Icemaker problem on Sears Side-by-side #106.56546400

Through-the-door icemaker quit working recently; immed. suspected water valve, bought, and replaced that item, still not working (water dispenser is fine). Have read your comments to Tammieroe (03/22/07) and tried the V and L test points - no water (inlet tube NOT frozen). Also read your comments to WillN2Try (09/17-19/07). Both water valve solenoids work with one of the elect. connectors, but not the other one, which I'm assuming would point to the module. There is NO noise coming from the module (not even trying to turn. (Now I did notice that the retaining clip that holds the white wheel onto the motor gear is broken, but shouldn't the motor itself still try to turn? I can replace the module if necesaary (or components thereof) but I have already "wasted" money on the valve, and don't really want to waste more if the module is not the problem. (If you think it is the module, should I just replace the motor and gear assembly or the WHOLE thing? Thanks in advance for your advice!!

whirlpool pin retainer is broken on ice dispenser

Whirlpool ED5GTGXNQ00 side by side pin retainer is broken off of ice maker dispenser housing. It holds the door flapper for the ice dispensor. The repair guy says that I have to replace the WHOLE FREEZER DOOR, because of this tiny little plastic pin retainer. I really want to be able to fix this as I still have all the parts and glued the plastic thing back, but I don't know how to get in there. Some one posted a model number for the kit a while back and when I go on the whirlpool site it doesn't come up. Where and how do I order the kit, and does it come with instructions.

this is easy. there is a small area beside where the piece broke off. bend a small peice of metal coat hanger at a 90 degree angle, (this is so you can make your new hole on the correct line) heat the end with a lighter, burn a smallhole thru this area beside where the previous hole existed. now throw away the old pin that you were using and use a piece of coat hanger cut to the right length. on one end bend about one half inch to 90 degree angle, feed thru new hole and thru your spring and flap and thru to opposite side hole and lastly make small bend to keep wire from sliding out. ta da, fixed. problem solved for about two cents. i have successfully repaired many of these doors.

Ice Maker on/off switch has blinking red light, will not produce ice. Manual no help

The manual doesn't tell me anything about that blinking red light at the icemaker on/off switch. It's not producing ice, the water line isn't frozen, the freezer is good and cold, there is no ice jammed in the storage bin or dispenser parts. Help! My Whirlpool Gold icemaker will not work after I replaced the filter. Water lines seem fine. Just doesn't make any ice. I have move to the temp to the next level and cleaned the grills. Still nothing has happened. Any suggestions? Thanks

When you open the freezer door the light should be blinking. When you hold the flipper door shut (on the left hand side) without blocking the beam, the light should stay on solid. If all of this happens then the optics are o.k. If optics are ok then you most likely have a broken motor module on the icemaker and should replace the icemaker thermostat along with it. A bad icemaker thermostat will lead to the module breaking. If you not sure how to replace these parts then I would just replace the whole icemaker. That would be easiest and usually not much more expensive.

This is an indicator that the sensor assembly has gone bad. This part is very easy to change. You go go online at apdepot.com to find the part and order it. It will come with both parts, one one each side of the freezer.
