Same here. I'm trying the "unplug and wait 40 minutes" solution like some of the Sony Blue-Ray solutions.

In the operator's manual there are directions to the setup screen. You can select the set up menu and go item by item makign the choices you want. The manual is uploaded here on Fixya or on line through the Sony web site.

So the "mute" is off, and you're sure you've selected the right settings on the TV and/or the amplifier you're using with the DVD player?

It may be the brand of disc you are using. Have you tried any other brands? Have you tried DVD-RW? Might make a difference. I'm using DVD-RW and most of them work flawlesly.

A blank DVD means the write laser is not working correctly.
A quick check: write on a disc that has something you don't want ALREADY ON IT. If the disc comes out blank, the write laser is on but not focused. If the disk still works, the write laser is not on or very weak. Either way, it likely means a new laser assembly + alignment.

If you are recording from a digital video camera you should be using the DV-IN jack(that's why you get the dv/d8 error). If you are just trying to record a show from a cablr/sat channel then you need to select the correct input for the device you are trying to record from(vid1,vid2,dvin etc). you can download a service mnaual from sony.com if you are in need of one.

Usually this is a Problem that needs Disassembling. First of ALL, unplug he Unit for Few Minutes. Make sure all the Output/Input Devices are Unplugged. Turn it Back ON. ( Say 15 Minutes ). If it still does not Respond, you need to Open the Player.

Note - This Might Void the Warranty, if any. Only Perform if you are Good at Electronics.

The power circuit for the DVD and the VCR are separate look for a open diode and transistor in the circuit that supply the DVD. Once you open it, also Check for the Fuse to make sure it was not Blown.

I finally got it fixed . I press the number one and enter key for about 5 seconds on the remote while I had the DVD player on and TV the
I press 1 again for 5 seconds and then press menu key till the menu
display on TV screen then I was able to change the settings back from DVD1 to DVD3. The DVD player now works fine

To solve the problem you need to change the command code on the remote control to 1. Point the remote to the unit, and press 1 on the remote.

If your unit is displaying DVD2 on the front panel, you will need to set the command on the remote to match the display on the unit.
Point the remote to the unit and press 2 on the remote. Them press system menu on the remote, you should be ok.

To solve the problem you need to change the command code on the remote control to 1. Point the remote to the unit, and press 1 on the remote.
