the needle jammed down in the fabric and I could not raise the needle using the wheel. I removed the bobbin case and saw that thread was jammed. In order to reach it, I had to remove the outer ring thing and the shuttle. I cleared the jam and the needle moves up and down. But now I can't figure out how to re-insert the shuttle and outer ring thing. Please help!!
maybe one of the parts diagrams at the Singer site would help? or us the contact there?

I have a new singer 3116 and the hand wheel works fine as long as your turning it backwards. But when you turn it forward it lowers the needle but when it gets to the bottom the hand wheel stops turning.
here is some troubleshooting
Download your manual.

Ok I know that youve checked this, but I have to ask.
Pg 39
Check and make sure the reverse lever isnt engaged.
I'm looking at pg 27 and see you have a traditional bobbin casing (not a drop in) make sure your bobbin is wound well and the case is inserted correctly. (they are picky)
Change your needle make sure its in right and tight. (I have bent many a needle just slightly, and it causes huge issues with this particular type of bobbin casing)
Pg 35 gives a test for the bobbin tension. If your thread rolls, the tension is too loose, OR the case may have gotten damaged.
Lets see if this helped.
Good luck

I have just bought a new Singer 3116. Starting sewing for a while and then when I put my foot on the foot pedal the needle would not come down and the handwheel would no longer turn backwards or forwards. What am I doing wrong or is this a problem machine? Nothing is jammed. I have tested upper thread test and bobbin test. Both seem to be fine.
The "Bobbin stopper" is in the incorrect position. It moves from side to side in a switch like motion. In one direction, it locks up the machine. That is, you can turn the wheele backwards, but not forward.. The bobbin stopper can be found in the book that cam with the machine. In our book, it is item #9.

Have a singer simple 16 stitch machine. Threaded needle, bobbin, have tried many many times to sew. End up with a few stitches, then the machine jams. Some stitches turn outside, but the underside looks like chopped up thread. Tension has been checked, and nothing seems to help.

how to thread a bobbin for model # 6234 sewing machine
Try this page for Threading and Bobbin Winding Diagrams for loads of machines.....even if your model is not specified, there's a good chance you will be able to work it out from similar machines.

how to thread the bobbin
Drop-in bobbin: Note: thread must change direction when entering bobbin shuttle notch. Usually bobbin will turn counter-clockwise when threaded properly.
1. hold bobbin so that the tail of thread is facing to left.
2. drop bobbin into bobbin shuttle.
3. pull thread toward you.
4. guide thread into notch and pull to left so that slot engages thread.
5. pull thread diagonally across shuttle toward back of machine.
6. draw bobbin thread up through needle plate with threaded needle.

trouble shooting a Singer Athena touchtronic 2000 Sewing machine I have a Singer Athena touchtronic 2000 Sewing machine. The light comes on but the needle will not move when you step on the foot pedal. I took it to a in home repair shop and he thinks it might be the circuit board. He checked the cord and foot pedal on another machine and it was not the cord or foot pedal. He also checked with a co-worker who had advised him that parts and circuit boards are no longer available for the Athena 2000. Is that true? If parts are available or can be repaired who I can contact? I am located in Kent, WA. Debbie
Yes it's true, most parts are not available for this machine anymore. You might try to push the red reset button on the bottom of the machine. Also make sure that the reset button is not being depressed by anything that the machine is sitting on, and that the reset button pushes in and out freelyl.
