Most likely your tension is to tight.

that problem is usually happen when your machine have clog or no lubrication please try to use oil to lubricate your machine at all moving parts inside.

you need to adjust it for the free play as well,,,its a twiddle a bit at a time???

Try this. reomove thread and bobbin from machine.. Set thread tension to the middle number. Rethread machine carefully making sure the thread is thru the tension wheel. Replace bobbin making sure that thread is thru it's tensioner.
Rule of thumb. Loops on the bottom, problem is on the top. Loops on the top, problem is with the bobbin.

Keith, onthe head of the machine there should be about 5 spots to oil.
1) near wheel on top of machine
2)near the top left hand side
3)) in the middle of those 2
4) open bobbin case , remove bobbin and oil around the rim of where the bobbin sits
5) about 1/2 way between needle and base of machine.
You should blow out machine with canned air and then oil once a month.

Force the hand wheel in the normal direction of travel. You can't break it. The mechanism has just locked up. Once it is free, remove the needle and run it full speed for 20 seconds. The tip given to me by my dry cleaner / seamstress. It happened to one of her 4 industrial machines. She said she needed a strong man and that was me.
