Sony PS-LX250H speed problem

I have a different Sony model (PS-LX-150H) that had a similar problem. I hadn't used it in awhile, and then when I did, I noticed the speed problem.

IF your PS-LX250 is like my PS-LX150, there are small speed adjustment screws accessible from the bottom of the unit. On mine, the two adjustment screws were labeled - one for 33rpm, the other for 45 rpm. Basically I just fiddled a bit with them using a very small precision screw driver until I could verify that I had reached 33 rpm (I used a stopwatch and literally counted the number of rotations/minute after making adjustments.)

Now it sounds right!

I have a PS-LX250H turntable.

Have you tried testing it on something else, I guess my thought it possibly it the needle. In other words are you pretty sure your needle is working. I have had the problem years ago with the needle not registering. And next step, of course you make sure it plugs into the audio out put of the receiver. And third try plugging in , if you have it, another device to make sure your out put of receiver is working, if it does then most likely it is your needle. I really hope this helps some, thank mike

If you're not connecting the TT to a PHONO preamp or a receiver with a built-in PHONO connection the signal from it will be too weak to get any meaningful volume PLUS the RIAA equalization curve required for flat phono playback won't be applied so it will sound very 'tinny'.

Google it.

Get electronics that can handle old-school turntables.

I just purchased a used Sony turntable PS LX 160H

Just look around the web for a "Magnetic Cartridge Preamp".
You plug your turntable into this and the preamp in an aux socket of Surround Amp and the sound will be the same level as the other devices.

Hooking a turntable with it's own pre amp to a computer.

Check your inbox.

Hook the output to Aux. As for your PC, that would depend on your sound card. Basically, the same.

How do I install the belt on the turntable

1) Remove the platter - just lift up
2) Underneath the platter, you'll see a small lip section
3) Wrap the belt around this lip
4) Put platter back on turntable
5) Rotate platter until you see the motor shaft through the holes on the platter - a brass round looking piece
6) Pinch the belt around the motor shaft.
7) That's it.

Won't start

I had the same problem with the arm constantly starting and stopping, and the suggestion above works. Despite, I was a little confused on how to do it. Here's what I did in detail:

- Remove the turntable mat.
- Unhook the belt and remove the turntable platter.
- Once the platter's removed, you should see two plastic white gears in the middle. Rotate the center gear clockwise until its tab hits the larger gear. The center gear should move freely and without resistance until you hit that gear.
- Put the platter back, making sure to re-hook the belt around the spindle.
- Put the mat back.

After that, you should be set!

Major feedback hum from speakers

The reason for the hum is as follows:

1) The phono input on the receiver contains an additional stage of amplification required for typical turntables.
2) Pluggin in a unit that has a signal level too high will generate this hum.
3) Your turntable contains an pre-amp that allows it to work using an aux input (or tape input) as most receivers today no longer have phono inputs.
4) Grounding issues relate to the older types of turntables where there was NO pre-amp stage inside the turntable. In this case ,the signal levels were so low that stray noise would often get in the way of the signal. Proper grounding would elimiate this noise.

Hope this helps.

The turntable won't turn off.

The ole' wife hit the turntable with a tennis ball while playing with the dog accident. Very familiar with it. You can try a couple of different things...

1) Go inside the turntable, and see if you can fix it. Often times, there is a spring or bearing underneath the button, which has come dislodge. Just a matter of getting in there and putting it back.

2) See if some electrical contact spray does the trick. This stuff works great. and it's also available at most Radio Shack's now.

3) Just unplug it when u want to turn it off. Although, this is not really recommended, as your unit will be prone to slight surges and sparks - unless you just connect it to a power surge protector with a switch on it.

If all else fails, bring it to a service location for assistance. Shouldn't cost too much to fix, unless... the switches underneath the buttons are broken and need to be replaced. The switches are inexpensive ($5-10 part), but they'll get you on labor.

Replacing the stylus

Go to esupport.sony.com and type in your turntable model, PS LX250H. The "H" is important. Available is the complete manual, and a separate publication just on removing the stylus and setting EQ. Basically, swing the protector bar down over the needle, and snap the entire (mine is beige) unit down from the tone arm, then pull forward. I'm still shopping for the replacement, frankly.
