Have a belkin G plus mmo router, was with tech

In a basic home configuration your not going to have two subnets. When you plug in a device for the first time you should get a class C private address. The first three parts of the x.x.x.x address are your network address the last x is your host address. So your Gateway address (the router) will be like 192.168.1.1, so it's host address is 1. All other devices will by default be given an address from the router in an address pool like from 192.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.100 these are given out via DHCP. You can give devices statically assigned IPs but there shouldn't be any need unless you have servers which in that case should be static. If you try and give a device an address of 192.168.2.x this is considered a different subnet and won't be able to talk to anything on the 192.168.1.x subnet without extra configuration nor would the router forward the packets out to the internet. So long story short keep all your devices either DHCP or configure the static IPs on the same 192.168.1.x subnet.

I just received a new modem from my cable company

Reset your router back to it's factory settings by holding the reset button for about 5 seconds. I have provided a list of the most popular router brands. If it does not work you may need to google what your specific model's default IP address/default username/default passwords are, for example search for "Encore ENHWI-2AN3 default IP address" The default login info can change, it can depend on where you obtained your router. If you purchased it yourself from a store then the standard defaults should work. If you obtained your router from your Internet Provider you may need to contact your service provider. It also may depend whether it's an old or new model router as well. And you may need to press and hold the reset button on your router several times before it actually clears. Make sure you have a wired connection then once you have accessed your router simply run the Setup Wizard. Set your SSID as something you'll remember like "Mavericks Network" and your Password can be something like your phone number for example 3109876543

I don't have the cd

You don't really need the CD to setup a router but it does make it easier for non technical users.

1. SSID, the "name" of your network;

I cannot set the security

What you want to do is click on the keyboard the windows key and R at the same time. Then type cmd in the box and hit enter. Then type in ipconfig and hit enter. Then when it says default gateway, open up internet explorer and type those numbers in. You will need a username and password probably something like admin and admin, it may tell you what it is. Then you want to go to Wireless settings and go to security settings. You can then change the key type to WPA and input your security key. You will then need to put that key into your computer so you are able to access the network.

Thanks for using FixYa!

Get no signal from router

There are many network-related settings that need to be configured on the system for connecting to a wireless network. If even one of these settings have not been configured properly, issues will come up. All users facing problems with the use of wireless networks are advised to check network-related settings such as access points, IP address in use and reconfigure them if they are not properly set. Users are also suggested to check the firewall settings to make sure that the firewall is not blocking network connections.
