Can't give you absolute factual answer to that question. Twenty four hours is actually longer than I would wait but if you want to be safe MY advice is to wait for 24 hours. Time cannot be turned back to undo mistakes. :-)

If this is a conventional split system, ohm the compressor motor windings and/or check the run capacitor. Before doing so check to ensure there is power present at the compressor, and if so, then turn off power and proceed to the testing, but not with power on.
