I have the same vaccumm with the same problem, went back to exchange it and the same thing happened, I usually get about 10-15 minutes non stop out of the battery, I read that the battery memorizes the first charged time and then will only charge for that long. Did you happen to charge it 24 hrs?

the photos are not all in the right order but this should help you find and bypass the defective switch. This fixes the charging problem.

I had the same problem with my Dyson DC16, where it only runs for a few seconds at a time with each trigger pull. My husband called Dyson (Canada) and without hassle they shipped us a replacement part which I just received this morning. The replacement part sent to us is: DC16 Main Body with Rating Plate. It is also under warranty for 1 year. The great customer service makes up for the flaw in the machine. Also, Dyson is aware of the problem. Hope this helps.

Hi Rene,I am sorry to hear that your DC16 handheld seems to have a short runtime.This issue is generally the result of the filters needing to be washed or not being seated properly in the machine. If the machine is being used regularly, the filters should be washed monthly otherwise it will impact the performance of the machine.To inspect the filters follow the steps below:Remove the canister and separate the nozzle from the main body of the machine by pressing the silver button on the top of the machine.Remove the pre-filter.There are two portions to the washable pre-filter a blue sponge and a white scrim that has blue plastic. In the lower right hand corner of the blue plastic is a small silver disc. Opposite of the small silver disc is a hole that should slip onto a molded plastic post in the main body of the machine.While holding the handle of the machine in your right hand locate and lift up on the small "lip" on the left-hand side of the main body where the vents are.The rectangular blue sponge is your post motor filter.These filters should be washed once a month in cold water (no soap) and left to dry at room temperature for 24 hours or more. If any gray is visible on any part of the filters they need to be washed. When replacing the pre-filter into the machine it is important that the blue sponge face away from the motor and the small silver disc on the white portion be positioned in the lower corner of the main body.If the steps above do not fully resolve the problem, please call us directly at 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1-866-693-9766 (US).Best wishes,Jessica

Your DC16 will have been supplied with a 2 year guarantee. If it still within this period, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298. However if your machine is no longer covered, a replacement battery can be purchased via our website at www.dyson.co.uk/store.

Hi there,

We are sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC16. Based on the description you provided, your machine may have a blockage or your filters may need to be cleaned. Washing the pre-motor and post-motor filters for your DC16 Handheld every 3 to 6 months is an important step toward ensuring that your machine continues to function properly.

To locate the pre-motor filter:

• Remove the machine from the charger

• Remove the clear bin and cyclone assembly by pressing the button on the top of cyclone assembly then separate the cyclone from the main body of the machine

• The post-motor filter is located underneath the vents on top of the main body assembly just above the handle. Lift up on the small lip at the edge of these vents.

• Wash both filters, including the white and blue plastic scrim, in cold water (no soap)

• Leave the filters to dry at room temperature for 24 hours or more

When placing the filters back into your machine locate the small plastic "pin" that sticks out just beneath the black motor cover in the main body of the machine.

Be sure to position the pin in the small hole on the blue plastic portion of the scrim and the blue sponge will face away from the motor cover.
