perhaps the thermostat is sticking.as irons are cheap to replace i would try cleaning /soaking the tank to remove lime scale. or strip the iron down checking thermostat and conections.

Lost steam pressure

see this causes and fix it.God bless you Inspect the steam vents from the outside, and use a pipe cleaner or other small utensil to remove any excess buildup that is blocking the vents. Be careful not to let the buildup fall down into the steam vents.
  • 3 Clean the steam iron's directional spray tip. Minerals and other debris can build up on the nozzle over time and will greatly hinder the use of your steam iron.
  • 4 Pour equal parts vinegar and water into the steam iron's water supply tank. Put the steam iron above an empty pot, and turn the iron on. Let it steam the solution until all the water/vinegar solution is gone

    It has defective parts, either the wire is open or the heating element also a defective plug cord.
    It can be check by a continuity tester, if you have and knows how to use it.
    If not, call or ask who has knowledge in appliance or electrical repair for assistance.
    Thanks for asking.

    The plate of my Tefal

    You could try just cleaning it with Vinegar on a cloth. If this doesn't work then a little Baking Soda mixed with the Vinegar.

    The third option is to buy a purpose made Iron Cleaning Cloth as in the link below.

    Their should be something similar in whatever country you're from.

    The steam is building up

    I suspect that the discharge holes have become clogged by calcified deposites due to hard water. You need to de-calcify the iron. Mix one cup of white vinegar with one cup of water and pour this mixture in the iron and let it heat up. The acidic vinegar should dissolve the build up. repeat until clear. forthe final, use a little lemon in a cup of water to get rid of the vinegar smell. You can prevent this by using only distilled water in the iron, but this is not really practical, so a couple of clearing runs of the vinegar/water bath each month will put this off.

    If using with a power strip or extension cord, how

    Power = Current x Emf
    Current = Power / Emf

    Current - Amps
    Emf - Volts
    Power - Watts

    Current = 1700 watts / 120 Volts = 14 Amps

    If you live in Europe then -

    Current = 1700 watts / 240 Volts = 7 Amps

    Be sure your breaker and extension cord are rated for the amperage.

    Damaged mains cable

    it is betterr to get a sealed power plug with the nylon insulation for the iron with a 15 amps rating wire and plug.
    open the unit and disconnect the wire of the damaged plug, remove and replace with the new one taking care to connect each of the wires to the correct position. The lead , neutral and the ground must be double checked before you switch on.

    Red light is on, no

    Use a multimeter to check if the heating base unitwhich contains the coil is showing a good continuity. You will need to check from the cut off thermostat - bimetal- as the red light is a neon and will light up with the mains power. All what is needed is to take a continuity test with the ohmeter in the lowest range. If the coils are good then the fault can be the cut off thermostat , contacts would have eroded , clean and set.
    Hope you start fromthe first part.helpful I hope.Good day
