General Electric Microwave Oven - Page 7 Questions & Answers
GE microwave oven squeals as carousel is rotating.
If it is the wheel on the turntable that squeels, wash the turntable in strong solution of washing up liquid and water.
If it does it without a turntable fitted, change the turntable motor.
Replacing the turntable motor.
The motor assembly is fixed to the base
of the oven usually with two screws and access i obtained by removing
the inspection plate directly beneath the motor. It is usally a plug
in synchronus motor that revolves at a few revs per minute but the
plastic cogs in the motors gear box fail and the motor assembly must
be replaced. They are fairly inexpensive and obtainable usually from
a domestic appliance repair shop.
If you feel confident,
disconnect it from the mains power, remove anything in the cavity and
turn it upside down if it is a tabletop model, a little more
complicated if it is built in!
Remove the inspection plate and
disconnect the motor. Remove the motor and go and get a new one. Re
fit it and put the microwave back in its position. Plug it back in,
with the turntable and plate. Put a cup of water on the plate inside
of the oven and heat for 20 seconds to check the plate goes
round.
Hope this helps.

Can I buy a new door. Current door is cracked on
You easily replace the door on most microwave ovens by opening the door all the way up and lifting straight up at the hinges. The door should lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwave ovens, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal.
NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.
There are several parts sources available that you can may try to purchase replacement parts:
searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com
The first three sites on the list also offer helpful exploded view parts listings to aid in parts identification and location. Just type in your model number and locate the parts listing for the door. Some manufacturers only sell the door as a complete assembly. Others may sell individual parts. To save money, you may also try just purchasing the door facing parts that are cracked. If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this advice is helpful.
Microwave is not heating food up. It starts and
Often this is due to a bad door switch located inside behind the area where the door hooks go into the oven. Sometimes, the problem is due to a bad connection or a bad relay on the control board. You can send it back to GE, and it should cost from $30 to $40 dollars to repair.
Mircowave does not seem to heat anything any
There are several reasons the oven can stop heating. The most common is failure of the magnetron tube, which generates the microwaves. If you've been noticing longer cooking times, unusual humming noises or an electrical odor, these are signs of a magnetron nearing the end of life. When they finally fail, it's one of two ways. They open electrically like a fuse blowing, so that everything seems like it's working but there's no heat, like you describe. Or they can short-circuit, which causes a very loud humming or groaning noise and no heating, and may cause the main power fuse to blow so that the oven goes completely dead.
Unfortunately, the magnetron is about the most expensive part in the oven. So while it could be replaced, it's usually not economical. Between the cost of parts and labor (this kind of repair is best left to professionals because of safety concerns), it may only be a little more money to buy a new oven. In some cases, repair may even cost more than a new one.
There are other possible causes. There may be bad connections that have developed or something has gone wrong on the control circuit board. Other parts in the power supply for the magnetron may have failed. If you want to keep this oven, see what the cost is for a professional to check it over and give a repair estimate. It may turn out to be worth fixing. But if the magnetron is bad, it's probably time for a new oven.
Sorry I can't be more positive, but thanks for using Fixya!
It will turn on but will not heat
Sounds like the magnatron is shot. This is the main heart of the oven, the magnetron is what creats the Micro waves to heat the food. You might want to find out what it cost to get this replaced and then decide wheter the cost of fixing yours is greater than replacment of the oven. Christmas time is here and Microwave ovens are usually cheaper this time of year. This unit might have a fuse to the magnatron, you can remove the cover after you UNPLUG the machine and see if there are any replaceble fuses inside the cabinet. If this has any years and lots of use on it, I would simply repalce it. You get a warranty with a new oven and someplaces let you choice a replacement type warranty.

Touch pad works fine. Any input for microwaving
The problem is your magnetron is not getting power. You may also have a blown fuse inside the microwave. First thing to do is change the fuse, if this does not correct the problem then your charging diode, capacitor, magnetron, or high voltage transformer have failed. It would be cheaper to buy a brand new microwave then to repair it.
