Beautiful picture,no sound
Hello
If your TV displays good picture and there is no sound output from it, please connect an earphone or headphone to its headphone/earphone socket, if provided, and check whether the sound output comes from it or not. If there is sound output from the headphone socket, and not heard from the speaker of your TV, the speaker inside your TV may got damaged. Check the speaker of your TV. For that you have to open the TV. Unscrew it and go for the same type and number and replace it. There is an other possibility, that is if your TVs headphone socket itself can got damged. You can make sure it by after checking your speaker. If the speaker is alright; the socket is faulty. Replace it with same type.
An other fault can occur is Audio Output Ic failure. If it has damaged, you won't get sound output either from speaker or from the headphone socket. You can make sure about it. Keep your ear very close to the speaker side of your TV, switch on the power to TV. If there is a "Thumb" soud is heard, you can make sure that your TVs speaker is Ok, and if there is a "Hum' sound also comes from it, Output Ic is damaged.
If so you have to open your TVs back cover and locate the Audio Output Ic. It can be located by following its speaker wire. The speaker wire goes to Output Ic. Usually it may be screwed into a metal heatsink. Desolder it out of the board, and go for the same type and number. Replacing it will solve the problem.
All the precautions must be taken before opening your TVs back cover. Plug it out from the wall socket bfore doing this. Keep chldren away from you, and not let them even stand beside you. Let an adult be there beside you as a precationary measure.
Read and understand well the above said solutions and go on.
Wish you sucess.
TV keeps on turning on and off by itself
I would look at either the on/off button faulty or a heat sink not doing
it's job.
Either way, the solution is quite simple. The on/off button simply
toggles a low voltage circuit that powers your tv. If it is dusty, it
may complete the electrical circuit and send a false signal.
A heat sink may be dusty and unable to dissipate heat. Overtemp
protection may be switching the TV off.
I would take a can of compressed air, open the back and clean the dust
off the circuit boards.
No picture or sound
Does it make a squeal sound while plugged in to power?
If so, possible horizontal output shorted. $150-$200 about.
Tv wont urn on
Please try these preliminary steps....
1. Check wall socket by plugging any other appliances
2. If it is ok, check whether power LED of TV is working
3. If power light is there, the problem will be with remote
4. For checking remote - Point the remote towards the Camera of a Camera Mobile with camera on. While pressing remote keys, we can find the remote LED blinking, which means working.
As soon as you turn the power on it goes back off
Mine is doing the same thing. If I unplug it, plug it in and turn it on 20-30 times, very quickly, eventually it will turn on. Looking for help as well, but hopefully this will help in the meantime.
Whatever you do, DON'T turn it off once you get it on!!!

The tv doesn't turn on.
RCA big screens are not very reliable. If you do decide to repair it you may expect another failure soon thereafter; it is the nature of all big screens and particularly RCA brand.
That being said, the problem when you have sound and no picture is nearly always the HV/HOT... Let's say 80% of the time. The other 20% it can be almost anything.
So, I think there is a good chance you can fix it by checking out the HV flyback transformer and the Horizontal Output Transistor.
ONE: Here is what you must do: Obtain a vom (volt ohmmeter) for the checking. I recommend a simple one at Walmart electrical department for $9.83 but any good one will do.
TWO: Unplug the power cord of the set and let is set for 4 hours before you touch it - to discharge any voltages internally.
THREE: Remove the back cover and get inside where you can find the high voltage cage. It can be identified easily because it has big fat colored wires that feed the projection tubes. Inside the cage is the flyback transformer that must be checked. Sometimes it is easier to just remove it and replace it assuming the worst and be done with it. You can usually find one at www.partsolver.com or partsstore.com or other places on line (with a google or ask search).
FOUR: Then you must check the horizontal output transistor - which is also identifiable because it feeds the flyback transformer that you just removed/replaced. The markings on the board may help you identify it. The part number is usually silkscreened onto the board; the numbers on the transistor are not always helpful, being just factory identifying numbers and not part numbers. You can often purchase this from the same place as the flyback. It is difficult to remove because it will be mounted on a heatsink and is mounted via a heat transfer washer. Installing the new transistor is very critical as it must have the heat transfer washer and heat transfer compound applied carefully and accurately or it will fail soon. You may find an electronics store that can help you get these two items by looking them up in his parts books. They flyback will cost around $50 or more (if they can find one this old) and the HOT is around $10 to $20.
That will get you started. You may have other questions; just let me know.
Thanks for using Fixya.
Tv wont turn on
it sounds to me a transformer in your set has gone hard to say witch. im guessing it is a CRT set the best thing i could suggest would be to take it to your local tv repair shop they should be able to sort this for you and it shouldn't be to expensive.
TV not coming on
try in any other power outlet.check out if the wire got cut or loose any where also look at the power led on the front pannel if its not comming on totally then it might be just the fuse got blown problem.other wise can be the problem of internal main board that has to be checked properly.
thanks.
Can I hook up external speakers to this T.V.?
This tv carries two sound out phono plugs, but if for some reason they are not there ( date of mfr ) you can use the headphone out jack. Just go to any radio shack store and explain what you are trying to do and im sure they will be happy to assist you.
good luck,
