Magnum S6 Base CB Radio Questions & Answers
Proper front control settings
amt = your rf power out put. the lower the setting CCW or CW will change the dead key. The echo = set to your liking. but to be nice to others keep it to a low repeating rate. it does make it hard to understand if its turned up and constantly repeating. Do you need info for the others? or just those knobs?
How do get my magnum cb on 19
Its very easy on this radio because it has a built in frequency counter. I can't remember off the top of my head but its most likely band letter A, then turn the channel selector to 19. If you are on the CB channel 19, the frequency counter will read 27.1850.
If band A channel 19 is not 27.1850 then leave the channel selector on 19 and flip through the band letters until it reads 27.1850. once you have found it, that letter is the CB band. channels 1 - 40 of the cb band.
I have 1.1 on my swr and my meter on s9175 its
Then I would say either you do not really have a 1.1 or the SWR warning circuit is not aligned.
If its fine until you talk, and then it starts to blink, that means that the SWR is going up as you talk. This should not happen. When it does you have something called, Common mode current happening. It is when the RF energy travels back down the outside for the coax.
This usually occurs when you either have a poor antenna ground, and or poor coax. Some times it can be un known and not be the antenna or coax.
The solution for common mode current is called an RF choke. As close to the antenna as you can, while still inside the vehicle, (Meaning don't have the coil outside the vehicle) take 6 to 8 inches of coax and coil into a tightly wound coil the diameter of a spray paint can and use electrical tape to keep the coil together. This will stop the common mode current and solve the SWR problem.
If you are using this radio as a base, again, as close to the antenna as possible, (this time it can be outside) make a 10" coil, about 6 wraps and hold it together with zip ties in a uniform coil.

Hi, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. Trim only one eighth to one quarter of an inch at a time. Some antenna,s have an adjustment screw at the base of the element, I think it,s a allen screw. Just move it up or down. Make sure your antenna is grounded good. You may have to take it out of your coax.. Each marking on it is where you want to cut it. Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa...John
My talk back is low cant hear it
You really don't want to have a loud talk back. Its usually controlled by your mic gain. the louder it is, the louder your talk back is.
Talk back is used so you can her how your audio is being transmitted. It makes a lot of sense when you have echo. use it to hear you echo to make sure its not too much.
The problem with a loud talkback is, if it is too high, you will get feed back in your transmit.
You should leave it where it is.
How to increase modulation on a magnum s-6
Hello there:
you can either get a power mic or
i would send the radion in to have it tuned up costs about 45.00 but well worth it.
But if you are familiar with these radios you can open the cover on the radio and look at where the antenna goes into there is going to be 2 square aluminum pieces with a verry small flat head screwdriver and make verry small adjustments WARNING IF YOU OVERADJUST THESE YOU WILL BURN THE FINALS OF THE RADIO ok?
best regards mike
My magnum when i key up it blows the fuse, what could it be?
check your aerial for open/short circuit/power wiring to cb in truck/upgrade the fuse by 1 amp/mike wiring (tx/rx) if the cb shop could'nt find anything wrong then the faults in the truck/aerial/power? or the cb shops not up to much! you could have a faulty output transistor in the cb if all else fails?
Receive fine. Transmit problems.
Hello breaker19261,
I believe that you have a malfunction in you transmitter circuitry. I would first try to determine which stage in the transmit section is defective. I would start looking at the section that is more closely connected to the power supply and work from there. If you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you get someone who does to do this for you. They will be able to track this problem down for you. Since most of the time in these cases I would suspect a faulty capacitor, have them check the DC levels first to see if there is a short or an open circuit.
I hope this helps,
Thank you,

Magnum S3 talkback and receive fuzzy yet transmit sounds ok except now it only puts out 30 watt from 85.
It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with the audio quality on your Magnum S3 radio, specifically with the talkback and receive audio being fuzzy. Additionally, you've noticed a decrease in the radio output power from 85 watts to 30 watts.
Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot this issue:
- Check the microphone and the audio cables for any damage or loose connections.
- Check the radio's settings to ensure that the microphone gain and audio levels are set correctly.
- Check the SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) and adjust the antenna if necessary.
- Make sure that the radio is not in an overdriven state, this can cause distortion and decrease the output power.
- Clean the radio's final transistor, check the cooling, and check that the final transistor is not over heating.
- Check the radio's manual for any information regarding troubleshoot, or if there are any specific instructions for audio settings and power output.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a problem with the radio itself and you may need to take your radio to a professional for further assistance.
Please note that the information provided is based on my knowledge cut-off date and it may not be current.
