I have the basic Macbook (white - $1100). It was given to me and is acting up. I want to wipe it clean like new. Is there a way to do it? I tried and cannot find anywhere on the laptop to do that. I have a dell and hp and they are very easy to wipe. Can anyone help me or should I go to the apple store and see what they say.....
Thanks
You need the original Mac OS recovery cds to initialize the hard drive and reinstall the software. Aplle calls formatting the hard drive- Initializing the hard drive. If you don't have the cds, then you need to purchase the Mac OS cds. either Tiger or Panther (again, that is what Apple calls it's software)
If the unit still boots up but is having issues, you can click on the hard drive icon. , click on Applications. Click on Disk Utility.
Click on repair. The OS will repair any errors that it finds. If this works, great. If not you will have to use the Mac OS cds.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

It's a loud fan, and it never used to run very often. Now it does. Any suggestions for making the fan stop? I have the laptop perched on an open stand (an iCurve) based on suggestions from a friend, so I don't think it's a "trapped heat" issue.
There may be high CPU usage by some program. It would be normal for the fan to run if the CPU usage is high. Check the Activity Monitor (found in utilities) to see if something odd is going on.
I had a problem where iPhoto quit working, and somehow was using 90%+ of the CPU. I could view the photos, but some operations did not work and the only way to exit was Force Quit. I had to remove and reload iPhoto.

My friend has a mac laptop. His camera comes on that is built in. He bought a new camera to plug in and he can't get his built in cam to shut off so the new camera works.
You are welcome..

my mac cannot access gmail.com. do you have any way to fix this?
the searching i've done suggests that error 107 is a certificate issue (vague, right?). the gmail help page suggests you make sure your computer's date/time/timezone are correct.
if that doesn't solve it, i wonder if the problem is the same if you type gmail into, say, a google search, and try and navigate to the page from there. (the issue is you can't access the page, right? not that you can't log in?)
it's apparently a common issue in chrome [error 107], and developers are working on it, but it doesn't explain why you can't access with other browsers. do you get error messages in these other browsers?

in microsoft word how can i unhighlight the text
If you have highlighted text by selecting a region of text and clicking on the yellow highlighter icon in the palette, all you have to do to unhighlight the text is to select the same text and click again on the yellow highlighter icon.

stuck on mute?
There is something stuck in the macbook's earphone jack. If not, it could be that the 'mute' button was pressed hard enough causing it to be jammed. Try restarting the computer or inserting a earpiece into the jack to undo the process.
Alternatively, you may wanna head to the nearest IT service centre as attempting to repair a mac on your own could result in a billshock if the process goes wrong.
