Can't connect to the internet.

If this is a cable modem, you need to restart the modem every time you change whatever is connected to it. Every device has a MAC address. Cable modems lock onto a MAC address that is connected to it and will only communicate with that device until you reset it by restarting. Some Comcast modems have a battery pack that must be removed in addition to unplugging it from the wall.

If it's DSL them maybe there is a username/password entered in the management console of the router.

The router does not send a signal to the computer.

I like and use this router in my network at home. That being said i also use a D Link wireless access point to handle the wireless side of things, but that's me.
You router would have set up a WEP key when you set up the router, this key needs to entered onto the computers connection settings. Without this key you will not connect to the internet via the wireless side of the router. How you set this up, i have no idea, i don't use it, i leave my connection so that it looks like it is open but all my routers have mac address access enabled so my routers and my connections are locked down. Realize that this isn't much in the way of help but this may point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps

Con't connect to internet through d-link dir 625

  1. Reset the router and your modem.
  2. unplug the router's power
  3. unplug the modem's power
  4. wait 15 seconds
  5. plug in the modem
  6. wait until you have several lights and not too much blinking
  7. plug back in the router.
Try logging going to website. Give it a couple of tries (refreshes). Sometimes it takes the router time for the first attempt.

When connected to desktop can't access internet

When you say desktop, do you mean a wired connection or a wireless one.

If it is a wired connection, do you see a light change on the router when you plug and unplug the connection?

If you do, you have a good connection. The problem is not wiring related. So, the next question is do you have an ip address already assigned statically.

Go to start -> run ->cmd. Type 'ipconfig' in the window. You should see an address like 192.168.0.100 (there are many possibilities). You should also have a Gateway that is like 192.168.0.1. See if the following command works:

ping 192.168.0.1 <this is the Gateway address that you got>

If it works, can you ping an external address like 152.3.140.1.

If you can do that, you have basic connectivity. The problem you might have is DNS (Dynamic Name System) which is what converts names to numbers. Can you ping google.com? If so, you should be ok.

If something fails along the way, let me know.

No internet access

Configure the Router 1. Step 1
Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter."
2. Step 2
Use "Admin" as the username in the pop-up box and leave the password blank.
3. Step 3
Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup."
4. Step 4
Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP.
5. Step 5
Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password.
6. Step 6
Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.

Connection issues

To troubleshoot the issue follow the below steps

1.Try disbaling and enabling the wireless lan card

2.Check whether Ip addresses assigned in the wireless network card.If the address is assigned by dhcp and not assigned in network card means assign static ip in the range supported in the networkand ping the website or gateway.

3.If the ip is assigned already means try pinging the gateway and dns server .If ping is success means the connection between router and pc and internet is good .In that case you have to check whether authentication is successful if any authentication is used.

LOST D-LINK CONNECTION

try resting the router and also making sure your lap top or wireless desktop isn't the problem.
To reset the unit - -unplug all but the power cord - straighten out a paper clip and find the tiny hole marked RESET - hard to see - then - with everything unplugged but the power cord and the unit turned on - push the paper clip end into the RESET for 10 SECONDS - then unplug the unit for 10 seconds and plug it in - turn it on and re attach all other cords as needed. Be sure your pc is plugged in to the first pug or LAN - this will make a difference if you have more than one wired pc on the network.
If that fails - please =- find the disk or go online and call D-LINK - they are the best - the BEST -service EVER - of all the units for Tech-- the BEST .
