Need to know where to

There is no specific dead key setting for an ampifier. Each amplifier requires different dead key to operate at it peak effeciency AND to sound the best it can. If I knew what type of amp it was I could give you a better idea. Just for a reference point I will give you these numbers. For your basic amplifier ( 2 pill - 4 pill non high-drive) you could safely set the carrier at 1 - 3 watts. This is why the majic number for most people is a 2 watt dead key. For a High-Drive amplifier you really have a broad range of settings for deadkey. Generally anywhere between 2 - 8 watts. Some can even handle 10 watts. This DOES NOT mean that they need a HIGH dead key to operate properly. Just FYI, what you run into with improper dead key is either a really choppy, splattery, overmodulated sound with a deadkey that is to low, OR, a really pinched up, tight sound with a dead key that is to high. Also, a HIGH dead key can cause an amplifier to over heat, causing the transistors (pills) to fail prematurely.
To set your dead key "properly" you really should have a technician "match up" the radio with the amplifier. This means, he will hook up the radio and amp that you plan to use with one another in line and tune (set dead key) the radio to "match" the amp. This will give you the optimal audio and performance without overdriving the amp.
Hope this helped. Lost Jeep, Athens GA, 10-7 !!

Am fm, d/a, e/b, f/c....what

They determine what kind of signal you broadcast and receive - you can communicate only with ones that have the same setting.
AM/FM is the modulation: Amplitude or Frequency, you should keep it on Amplitude if you're in USA or on FM if you're in most of Europe.
D/A , E/B and F/C is the general band selector, it basically makes a selection of the available channels. The general use channels are on the D/A band. Do not select the other bands, you need a special license for them.

check your antenna first, you need to adjust it if it's adjustable, if not, then get one that is adjustable. make sure it's also elevated high enough.

I have a connex 33tlm3 works good whith litllie

Hi jeremy, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. I think you are saying you are trying two different antenna,s. With the big one, sounds like you have a high SWR. or a bad ground. Make sure that your antenna is grounded good and nothing is blocking it. You will need a SWR meter and a three foot jumper to check this. How to check this is take one end of the coax jumper and run it to the radio and the other end to the meter where it is marked radio. Now take the antenna and put it in the other fitting marked ANT. Set the dial on the meter to SWR SET then turn off all your modulation,MIC GAIN, POWER MIC, now key the MIC and adjust the needle where it says calibrate all the way to the edge of the scale, not going past the edge, with the MIC still keyed up, turn the switch to SWR. that reading you see on the scale is your SWR. If it reads a three (3) or over, it is to high. Depending on your antenna, there are adjustments. Thanks for choosing FixYa...John
