updated firmware will not help. this is a known issue with Pioneer DVR-112D, drive needs to be replaced. Contact Pioneer for a free replacement, here is the url
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Support/Important%3A+Notice+Regarding+CD+Read+and+Write+Functionality+in+Certain+Pioneer+Computer+Drive+Models
The issue occurs only under limited environmental and use conditions that are not typical for most end users, so Pioneer anticipates that most users will not be affected. If you are not experiencing any issues currently, there is no need to take immediate action. The service issue does not pose any health or safety risk.
Pioneer is aware of a potential issue with the above drives’ CD (not DVD) read/write capability. Under certain environmental and heavy use conditions, the above drives may become unable to read or write to CDs. To address this issue, for any of the above model drives that become unable to read and/or write to CDs, Pioneer will provide a replacement unit (which may be a newer model number) at no extra charge, shipping prepaid, subject to the terms and conditions of Pioneer’s standard limited warranty(excluding duration).
Again, we anticipate that most drives will not be affected. However, if your DVR-1810, DVR-2810, DVR-X122, DVR-112D, DVR-112DBK, or DVR-112DSV drive becomes unable to read or write to CDs, please contact Pioneer Customer Service by one of the following methods:
Complete an online replacement request form and submit it online. Once your model and serial number are validated, you will print out the completed form to mail along with the affected drive.
This online form is for United States customers only. For Canadian residents, please contact Pioneer Electronics of Canada customer service directly at 877-283-5901.
My pioner dvd dr 1120 d wont reconise blank dvd's
Open it with NERO softwer and add some files to burn, down at the right end of window (nero's) have a line that says how much space on disc there is.
Simple as this, I just caimed from my DVD dealer and he explained to me, Empty disc will always say 0 Bytes but if you open Nero Burner you'll be able to se how much of space is free on scale, after and whille adding files to burn image.
Hope you understand me :)
Burning a dvd
What software are u using? If you have nero then it should be easy. Study on the kind of software u are using. Look at the recorder option, all options should be unchecked, especially high compatibility mode.

Install
Unscrew the screws on the back of your computer that hold the sheet metal sides on. Take both sides off then simply pop out one of the bay covers and install it next to your current drive. Or you can take out your old one and simply hook the cables up to the new one. Screw everything back together and you're all set.
I hope this is the answer you were looking for.

My dvd burneer wont reconise dvd and dvd_rw discs
Check the blank disks in another computer if you can in case they are damaged and causing a fatal error when your computer tries to read them, and the reboot.
Are you sure it's SCSI and not SATA as scsi isn't very common these days especially on desktop type PC's? Where are you looking to see if the driver is correct?
If the drive is displaying and can be accessed from your operating system then it should be working fine.
Playback of DVDs

My DVD RW problem with EXE files
There is a problem with windows itself or the drive is nearing its life span, you can try the drive on a different computer
If it works then its the windows if not its the drive
if its windows format and reinstall
if its the drive then replace it
If you cant get another computer to try it on
copy a disc to your hard drive and try running it. its images open but the exe fails to run then its the windows
of nothing works then its the drive
BUT TO BE SURE I RECOMMEND using it on another pc
System not recognising DVD hardware
well you can download a copy of driver magican and let that get the driver for you
or my advise is to format and reinstall cause i believe there is a problem with your windows itself
CD burner 'not recognized'
First of call check if the drive is detected in the system bios.If it is not detected there than try to reseat it.Incase it is detected than its the operating system that is not recogenising it,so we can make try these steps:
1.Go to Start>Run and type regedit.Than go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CURRENT CONTROL SET>CONTROL>CLASS>{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and remove the upper and lower filter.
2.Go to start and right click on my computer and than click on manage. On this creen go to the option which says Device manager and look for the option for the cd drive.Expand it and than right click on the option it gives you and uninstall it.After that close everything and restart the system.
3.Also similar way you can remove the primery and secondry channels in the device manager.
4.Incase it still does not work you might have to reinstall the windows.
Hope this helps
