How to connect USB NAS to D-Link DIR 655

I have a router D-Link model DIR 655 that has a USB port supposedly used to connect a printer or hard disk. Well, I bought a Western Digital My Book and connected it to the router through the USB port, but nothing happens. This is the first time I have tried to use a NAS, so I don't really know how to use it. I thought the driver would appear on Windows Explorer as a share drive.
I'm using Windows Vista Business. Sharing services are active and it is possible to see all share directories on the network.
Thanks for any help.

if you update your router firmware to the most current you can use the usb port to connect to an external hard drive or flash drive but you have to install drivers on the computer you want to access it with also i believe only one person can access it at a time

DIR-655 wireless intermittment - connections drop -

I just purchased and installed the DIR-655. The direct connection links are up, running and working well. The issue we're having is with two different laptops that are 'b/g' wireless capable. We will see the router from time to time and sometimes are able to connect, however the link will not stay up nor are we able to see the router continuously. It does not matter how far or close we are from the router. I have tried secure and unsecure modes and have upgraded to the latest version of the firmware (1.07 Dec 08). Is this a HW defect or is there something else going on????

Thanks

Any one with a mac ... MAKE SURE "Enable Auto Channel Scan : " is OFF.

CHANGE the name of the WIFI Network.

SET the Channel to CH11 [Others interfere with phone signals]

SET Security to WPA, TKIP Cypher, 3600. Then enter your password [min 8 all lowercase chrs] Change it when you are working.

Save and unplug the router and you will be fine.

Error code 302 thats that mean?

I can't get my new D-Link DIR-655 wireless router up and running. I keep getting error code 302. I can't find in the D-Link manual or on D-Link's web site what this or any error codes mean.

HTTP 302 is not an error. It's simply a request for your browser to redirect to another URI. Browers aren't supposed to show you a message, they are supposed to simply follow the redirect. You should try accessing the router interface from a different web browser, such as Firefox.

VPN drops when using a D-Link Dir655 router

Hi,

I am using a D-link Dir655 router. When I launch the VPN behind the router it does connect for usually less than 2 minutes. The Log says PPTP ALG rejected packet from the IP of the server I am connectin the VPN tunnel to. When I setup a Linksys router I have no problems. Am I making a setup error?

Thanks .

Hi! Try to logon to the configuration page of your router. then go to Advanced tab and click on Firewall settings on your left side.

At the bottom part you could see the Application Gateway Level section, Uncheck all the boxes under that and click on Save Settings at the top.

Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

You do not need the disc. Using you browser, login into the router using the default IP 192.168.0.1 unless this has been changed and you should be able to configure your router.

Cannot connect to DLink DIR-655

My new laptop - HP dv7-1240us cannot connect to DLink DIR-655. Other laptops connect without any problems. The only difference is that the new one is running Vista 64bit, whereas other laptops are Vista 32bit or XP.
On the other hand, the new laptop can connect to a few public wireless networks, WEP secured (old Linksys router) network at friend's house. DIR-655 is listed as compatible with Vista 64-bit.
The laptop will see the router under wireless networks, but when attempting to connect, the connection cannot be established. Vista troubleshooting states the signal is too weak (and I am sitting a foot from the router and signal is excellent under "wireless networks").
Any ideas are greatly appreciated, I am lost

The part below is all you need to look at, the rest is Ethernet which is your wired connection, ethernet card.

Here is what are causing your problems from what you gave me and basically your computer is not communicating with the router:

1)I don't see any IP address for your laptop so you can't get on the internet if you don't have an IP address, also, I don't see any gateway address. The gateway address is your router address, and that address is given to the router automatically from your Internet Service Provider.

So if your computer cannot see the gateway address then the gateway address (router) cannot give you an IP address to get on the Internet.
Your Wireless card looks ok, that is the physical address and if you were able to do the loopback then its working.

So on your laptop I would begin from the beginning. Go into network connections and delete the DLink connection if it is there. Then Start>control panel>Network connections>click wireless network connection>click change settings of the connection on the left window>click wireless network tab>make sure checkmark"use windows to configure my wireless network settings>click add a new network>TYPE IN THE SSID FOR THE NETWORK>ENTER WEP/WPA KEY>CLICK OK, then close and you should be connected.

You said other computers are able to access the internet thru the DLINK so it all points to your laptop not being configured correctly.

HOWEVER :)...I see alot of "Media disconnected in your list. Make sure all of the lights are working on the front of the router, if not check the cabling or call the ISP sometimes the problem is on their end. Hope this helps, keep me updated.

The DIR-628 does support a USB printer. You need to download the appropriate shareport version from dlink http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=DIR-628&tab=3.firmware

If the printer drivers are already installed on your PC you should be ready to go.

You can set up your router manually, without the
CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online
directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the
modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the
router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the
settings of the router according to the ISP.

and network

First try replacing your LAN cable between you internet modem and the router. A bad cable the is intermittent may cause this issue. Try rebooting the modem. Also if possible try a direct connection to your internet modem by LAN cable or wireless and see if your connection stays up. You could have a bad internet modem or other connection issue from your provider

The final solution is a factory reset of your router. You can do a factory reset by logging into the router using you browser. Go to the settings and perform a factory reset.

If you forgot the router password, you ill have to do a factory reset by locating a small hold on the back of the router and insert the tip of of paper clip for about 10 seconds while the power is on. The router will be reset to out of box status and then you can ssets-up form scratch.
