I had this same problem with my vn 4100 olympus digital recorder. I learn from someone else on this site that you could just hold the display/menu buttton and the stop button at the same time for about 2-3 seconds. the FOR display comes on and all you have to do is wait a couple of minutes and your recorder is working again. Just keep in mind that all previous recorder will no long be there. they will be deleted.

I downloaded a manual - previous version lost in a crash - and sorted it out with that
It wasn't the timer but the settings on "alarm playback function"

buy another voice recorder, my dad has had me scouraging the net for a vista driver, the drivers dont work so it looks like its the good old bin for the recorder. dont get me wrong the recording quality is excellent, just olympus have really screwed 1000's of people over this time and i dont think many of those will trust olympus with anything other than a standard film camera.
they should stick to what they know and keep out of the digital genre.

you could always trade it in at a Cash trading shop and get some money for another make if that helps !

Accessed Olympus site and downloaded new driver update to clear problem.
Now working perfectly

I am no expert at all- but the following worked for me: i have copied and pasted the file on the desktop and then opened it with the windows media player and through there burned it to a cd.. hope this works for you too..

You need to loacte the files on the unit and get them to your hard drive via the transfer function. Once on your machine use any cd (like Nero) creating program to back them up to a black cd. You have to make sure your computer has a cd burner.

maybe, you got those wav. files copy controlled. check out the relevant preferences from the voice recorder menus. if this solution doesn't work, simply convert the files into mp3, then convert them into wav. again. I hope this could help..

I think you are going to have to run the pertinent software in compatibility mode, probably for XP or Windows 7. You could try running the XP driver on an XP machine if you have one collecting dust. That is, if the driver exists in the links at the old posts below. This recorder has been around from at least 2009. Alternatively, you can try the Olympus chat to inquire if a current driver might work on it. I'm under the impression that installation of any driver for the device is a little tricky at the best of times. not if Olympus or a dealer of them can not get you one

Purchase a new one. They are inexpensive and liquid damage is sometimes not repairable.

It could be full. try clearing some space.
