Make sure that it does not have notches in the ring that require a spanner type of wrench. Other than that it should be that simple. Make sure that you use the best or new jewelers screwdrivers. Don't over tighten them. You may want to consider using lock tight on the threads.

There are a couple options here. First you can try to see if the manufacturer has a driver for that product in Windows 8 on their website. Judging by the requirements (xp, 98, 2000), your product may not be supported on Windows 8 as it is probably and legacy (older) product but you never know as some manufacturers keep drivers up for some of their older products. Second option, is to right click the install file and run it in compatibility mode which is in properties. You can get to properties by right clicking or tapping the icon. Once in properties, click or tap compatibility tab, change the options so it is running in Windows XP mode, and try the install after applying it. This option is not guaranteed but its probably the only shot you have at using the original driver on Windows 8. Best of luck.

If your lens is 8 months old, it is still in warranty. Contact Nikon for return instructions.

Unless you have a lens collimator and other gear needed to reassemble the lens, don't even think about taking it apart yourself. If gentle shaking and tapping doesn't dislodge it, take the lens to a reputable camera shop and have a trained professional clean it.

The focus ring on that lense will lock when the AF switch on the lens is on auto. Move the switch to manual and it will release the focus ring.

Since the lens is only a month old send it to Nikon, It has a five yr warrante if it's new, All you have to do is send a copy of the recpt. with it,

Rubber focus ring can be purchased in ebay.The rubber ring may be attached to the lens with glue. Use denature alchohol between the rubber and lens to remove the rubber ring. It can be stretched little. Once removed, clean any glue on the lens and stretch the new rubber ring and install.

I am afraid you should take the lens to a Camera Repair Shop immediately..
You have an expensive and fragile zoom due to VR features ..Please either do not apply any force or make any movement action by hand since you may damage some other moving pars that rattling piece may go into the gears inside..

Hi, well the only way I know of, and would recommend, is to have the unit completely disassembled and then have the unit ultrasonically cleaned, by a professional camera repair service. This will remove any an all detritus, delicately.
Another way is to used "Canned Air" compressed air in a spary can, available from say Radio Shack, or similar places, this compressed can of air maybe able to be used to good effect, however it will be no where near as good as the US cleaning.

To my mind, this sin't something one would or should even want to do oneself, due to the delicate nature and cost of these units?
I feel that you need to take it to a good reputable Nikon repair center, and have a chat with the professional there, they will guide you.

Hello. First of all be sure that the lens and the camera are set to autofocus. If that doesn't solve the problem for you, turn on the camera, go into the menu and find the reset function. Reset the camera, what this will do is simply take the camera to all of the factory settings it had when it was new out of the box. J.

First, try carefully cleaning the lens and camera body contacts.

If that doesn't work then sorry, that's a fault which cannot be fixed on a DIY basis.

Either live without VR or send the lens to Nikon for repair. If it's under warranty then the repair will be free as long as it's not found to have been damaged by misues (such as being dropped).

Make sure the camera is set to auto focus and your metering is correct
Make sure the lens is set to A and not M
Make sure your body (the little switch on the front) is set to A and not M

to do this turn off the camera and hold the two buttons with the green dots on them and turn on the camera

There is no direct solution to your problem other then getting another lens. You can also try contacting Nikon about it and see if they will allow you to ship it to them for them to fix it. Other than that, you will need to get another lens.
