I have a Clarion M 475 radio that came in a used
yellow 12v battery
red 12v accessory
black earth

Clarion radio sound flickers
make sure your wirings are rated to handle the current needed by your radio. You might have a large voltage drop when it is at high volume level because it will draw lots of current. You might need to change the size of your wires to your Clarion. Check the voltage near the radio when it starts to flicker if it goes below the source voltage of 12V. hope this helps
Volume issues with clarion M309 installed on a boat

Your head unit is 50 watts X 4 channel maximum power and 21 watts RMS so it's possible that all you need is more power to the speakers. But even 21 watts RMS should be enough for normal speakers. Before investing in an amp, I'd check the speakers and their wiring. Measure the impedance (resistance) at the head unit side to see if they match up.

Power goes on and off-flickers
That is most likely because the radio is drawing more power than the wire can provide. First make sure you have good connections, especially a good clean ground. Next make sure the power wire from the boat is at least the same size or thickness as the power wire on the radio. If that doesnt work, you may want to wire the radio directly to the battery, using an aftermarket inline fuse and wire available at any car audio store.
AMP GUARD ON
I'd say go back to the guy who installed and get him to do it right. He's either left some wires exposed so they are intermittently touching, or has an open connection to one of the speakers. The amp will shut down to protect itself. He may also not have wired the speakers correctly. Some systems don't work unless both hot and ground wires run directly to each speaker. Some installers run only a hot line and use the car body for ground. At higher powers this can cause amp shutdown or keep it from working at all. In any case the installation wasn't done correctly.

Your best bet is to find a local professional stereo installer shop that carries that unit. Many will let you look through the user manual of one of thier display units if you ask.
And remember never to buy a product from a company that lists the product in thier catalog but leaves that unit out of thier online manual download and support site.
No sound.
Disconnect speakers one by one and reset the unit each time. If the speaker is blown, or the wires are frayed, it will shut down the internal amp. Also check the fuse in the back of the radio first, it should be near the wire harness. Power cycle the unit as well, unplug it from the power source, plug it back in. Hope this helps.
P code for a Clarion cx501
If the radio is a factory radio, the code to unlock it should be on a business card size piece of paper with the owners manual and warranty booklet. The card will say radio code and have a six digit number.
