Compaq screen comes on, then

This would depend on which OS you are trying to install. Also, if the system booted before and you are receiving this message you probably have a bad hard drive or corrupted system files. There are free operating systems out there such as Unix and Linux, or you can go through Microsoft and get the OEM disc for your preferred operating system. If you do not want to puchase the OEM disc yourself then you can also go through a pc repair shop and have them do an OS reinstall. Hope this helps, let me know if I can assist you with anything else.

Computer turns on ! No display ! Did system

first thing how did you do a system restore without display? second thing unplug your display from the power and your computer then plug it back in making sure that the plugs are all the way in. then check that the monitor is switched on it should says something like no signal found, now turn on your computer, if you still dont get any display try to test the monitor on another computer or laptop with an external display socket. if the monitor works on another computer then you need to look at video card. if it is an onboard video card then you are probably out of luck and will have to buy a pci or pci express(pcie) card for it. i know that SR2013WM comes with integrated graphics so if thats what your using then just buy a graphics card and you will be up and running again. if you play games then get one with at least 512mb and also one that has a fan i have found that the ones without fans can heat up and slow everything down. ok i hope that helps let me know how you go.

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, list of Dealers, for spare parts and service, Driver downloads and Installation Instructions as required.

Just Google the manufacturer's name and follow the links. Make certain you are directed to the manufacturer's web site as some search engines direct you to other sites and they charge for the information that is normally free of charge.

    I hope this helps.

    I have replaced my power

HP Support > HP Compaq Presario SR2013WM desktop computer > Motherboard Specifications,

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757470&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3300335

Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to view the motherboard illustration and photo.

    1) Is the 24-pin ATX main power cable plugged in tightly to the motherboard? The Lock on the side of the power cable has to lock over the Tab on the motherboard connector, for the cable to be fully seated.
(To the Right of the Ram Memory slots)

    http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain24

(Color of the connector does not matter. The example shows a 24-pin ATX main power cable connector, in Black)

    2) Is the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable plugged in, and seated well?
(Above the Processor socket { Socket AM2} and to the left)

    http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

    3) Is the SATA power cable plugged into the back of the SATA harddrive, and seated well?
(15-pin connector. The shorter 7-pin connector is for the Data cable)

    http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

    {NOTE*
Also ensure that the 7-pin Data cable is plugged into the back of the Harddrive, and seated well.

IF, the SATA harddrive has a provision for a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable, ONLY USE the SATA power cable.

Using both power cables will burn out the SATA harddrive.
    It may, or may not, happen all at once as soon as you attempt to turn the computer on, but will down the road}

    4) Make sure the CPU fan power cable is plugged into the motherboard.
The motherboard connection is above the Ram Memory slots.

When installing a Power Supply it is Very easy to bump the Ram Memory module/s. ('Stick')
Advise removing all Ram Memory modules, and reinstalling them.
Even if they look to be fully seated.

This way you are assured that they are seated.

Always work on a table, and if you have a carpeted floor, refrain from swing your legs.
A bed, couch, or directly on a carpet floor is a Static 'magnet'.
    Observe Anti-Static Precautions.

    Anti-Static Precautions:

    Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open.
TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case to relieve your body of Static, BEFORE working on your computer.
Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, upon your return be SURE to Touch the metal frame again.

If you have questions please post in a Comment.

DVD/CD shows to be working but will not recognize

Here are some things you can try:
1.- The DVD /-R "standard" is not really a "standard". Not all drives recognize all brands of writable DVD's. Go to your DVD drive manufacturer website and see what brands of writable DVD's he recommends and/or update your firmware. May read only or - DVDs.

2.- Sometimes there might be a software glich somewhere. Uninstall all your DVD burning software (nero and roxio require special registry tools to be completely removed which can you find on their home pages or on the net), reboot, and reinstall your DVD drive driver. Reboot again and install ONE of burning software program (you can also try putting in a blank dvd before having any burning software installed to see if you get a pop-up window from windows asking what to do next). Some peole claim that there can be conflicts if you use two burning software programs at the same time (like nero roxio).

3.- It could be a hardware hookup problem. This can be the case if your computer is new, you can read normal DVD's, and you have never tried to burn blank dvd's before. Open up your computer box and check the DVD hookups. Do you have more than one CD/DVD drive?. Which is the master/slave?. Does this mach what windows reports?. Are the IDE switches correct?. Unhook the DVD drive and other drives and redo the motherboard-drive connection yourself. Check that all the pins align how they are supposed to, etc. It is allways a good idea to have the DVD /-R to be a master drive and to leave the other CD drives on the side while testing. If you feel unconfortable moving cables around -don't be- search the net for detailed instructions on this till you feel confortable enough to do it.

4.- Your DVD drive could be broken. Get hold of a friends computer and try to install it there. Does it work?. If it doesn't you should be able to get it replaced by the people who sold it to you.

5.- There might be a serious software or even a motherboard problem. Get a hold of a friends DVD drive that works for him and try to install it in your computer. Can you get it to work?. If you can consider replacing your DVD drive by one similar to your friends. If you can't check and recheck your botherboard settings and try swiching out the IDE cables with your friends. Condider upgrading your motherboard BIOS (this may void your waranty) or even reinstalling windows (backup your data first!)

    When I turn it on

Bad Power Supply. Weak voltage power rail.

Has enough power to light LED lights, and maybe spin fans, but not enough to turn the Processor on.

    1) ALL of the LED lights on at once use less than 1 Watt of power.

    2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts.

    3) A typical Processor uses 51 to 125 Watts. Depends on what Processor it is.

The Compaq Presario SR2013WM desktop computer, comes with an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processor, that fits in a Socket AM2.

    1) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00777760&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3300335

Can use up to 62 Watts.

    2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_64_microprocessors#.22Orleans.22_.28F2_.26_F3.2C_90_nm.29

    No Processor operating, no computer.
No computer operating, No Signal to the monitor. (No video signal, or also known as No VGA Signal)

The Power Supply used is just one of the common ATX form factor power supply's.
Used in over 80 percent of PC's out there, and readily available.
(ATX size of the power supply case, is approximately 5-1/2 inches Long, 3-1/2 inches Tall, and 6 inches Wide)

It is 250 Watt, and a generic model. Probably made by Bestec, Delta, or HiPro.
(You can use a larger wattage Power Supply with NO problems.
A computer ONLY uses the power it needs, and NO more)

    A) The ATX main power cable is a 24-pin ATX main power cable. All of the new power supply's have an ATX main power cable, where the connector can be used as a 20-pin, or 24-pin.

    B) Uses a 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable.

    C) Past the two power cables above, just make sure the Power Supply has a SATA power cable, (For the SATA harddrive), a Floppy Drive power cable, (Used for the Card Reader), and enough 4-pin standard Peripheral power cables.
    (Misnomered as 'Molex')

    3) Typical 24-pin ATX main power cable,

    http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain24

    4) Typical 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

    http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

    5) Typical SATA power cable,

    http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

IF, the SATA harddrive has a provision for using a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable, AND a SATA power cable, ONLY USE THE SATA POWER CABLE.

If you use both you will burn up the SATA harddrive.

    6) Typical 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable,

Have questions regarding the above, or need recommendations on a Power Supply, please post in a Comment.
