Simpletech external hard drive not workin on windows 7

Windows 7 seems to have a lot of issues with external hard drives and any usb attached devices Click start control panel administrate tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes Automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in one box then select check now start then after its finished return and tick the other box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive i have found the best results ticking in one box the returning after it has finished then ticking the other box it might take some time depending on the size of your disk but be patient the next works on usb data / pen drives im not sure on external hard drivesRight click on your drive select properties then on customize restore Default in W 7

you might have to alternate doing this repeatedly until the problem is resolvedand i have found that leaving the a usb data drive plugged in and restarting my computer W7 my usb drive will work again (strange)whatever works hope it helps

I have a simpletech 120

12VDC, 1.5A external power adapter Well that is what this page says, it's not your 120GB drive but unsure if it's no the same model maybe. However all external HDD that need a power supply should be needing 12 volts, as they are just internal drives mounted in a shell and some simple circuitry to power and connect it.

I have a SimpleTech 120GB external hard drive.

Simpletechs have a three year warranty so if your drive is newer than that it is covered. You can go to www.simpletech.com (they are really hitachi drives) for details on warranty repair. If you are sure its not covered the case can be opened and inside you will find a SATA drive and you can buy a new SATA external enclosure for 19.99 at Radioshack. This includes the circuit board, cable, and new case.

My mac is not let me save on my simpledrive

Check the file system the drive is using under Disk Utilities.

It has probably been formatted as NTFS since you're able to read the files but not write them.

You'll need to Erase the drive under disk utilities and give it the MS-Dos format in order to write files to the drive. If you're ONLY going to use it on a mac then choose Journaled.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

USB Device is not detecting in DEll vostro A 840

HI
I HOPE THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL HELP YOU TO SLOVE THE USB PROBLEM
  1. Step 1 Plug the drive into a USB port that you know is working on a separate computer to make sure that the port itself is not causing the problem. Place the drive back into the original USB port if it remains undetectable on another system.
  2. Step 2 206565_thumb.jpg Mapping a Network Drive Open the "Start" menu and click on "My Computer" to bring up a new window that lists all of the drives connected to your computer. Take note of the letters assigned to the drives connected to your computer. Click on the blue button at the top left end of the window labeled "Map a Network Drive." Click "Continue" if a second window pops up asking for your permission to open the new menu.
  3. Step 3 206574_thumb.jpg Network Drive Mapping Menu Click the "Drive" button at the top of the new window. Select a drive letter from the drop-down menu that is not already in use, such as "Z" or "M." Click on the "Browse" button and locate the USB flash drive that your computer hasn't been detecting. Click on the drive and then click the "OK" button.
  4. Step 4 206578_thumb.jpg Control Panel Click the "Finish" button to close the window and map the USB flash drive to your computer. Restart the computer and then return to the "My Computer" menu and check to see if the USB flash device is usable. Navigate to the "Start" menu if the device still isn't working properly, and open "Control Panel."
  5. Step 5 206581_thumb.jpg Administrative Tools Click the "Administrative Tools" link in the Control Panel menu. Click "Continue." Double-click the "Computer Management" link at the top of the menu. Click the "Disk Management" button at the left side of the window to bring up a list of drives on the computer. Right-click the USB flash drive and choose the "Format" option. Click "Start" and wait for the formatting process to finish. Restart the computer and then attempt to use the USB flash drive again.
THANK YOU

Hi, I'm trying to do a backup of my photos, documents and music, but am unable to locate those itmes on the C Drive.Any suggestions?

you can use the windows search option to be able to find those files, but that will take a long time. you can use a backup drive or a backup software, they are almost reliable. if the files are important, then i would recommend taking a backup with the help of a technician. Call 1-877-805-1027 for toll free expert help.

Can SimpleTech runs on 220 voltage

Not enough info..... Ask Simpletech. I Dont use simple tech brand but it usually is similar to other products. Most Hard Drive Boxes are connected to a Power Pak that goes into the AC wall outlet to drop the power down to low DC voltage. Most power pak's handle 110 & 220 ac these days. Read the tiny writing on the power pak label. It's usually marked as input & output. Good Luck
