Computer doesn't recognize hard drive
Go to My Computer right click and select properties and under Device manager click under Disk Drives uninstall the drive. If you cannot see your hard drive then select scan for hardware changes. Also when you start your computer click on F12 and go into BIOS settings and check if you can see your hard drives

Drive wont mount, blue light flashes
I had a similar problem. I found out for me I had to many HDD's.
Once I disconnected the other HDD's (except C: drive) I was able to initialize it. Let me know if this works for you.

Mac cant find the hard drive
Clicking Hard drive When a hard disk makes a clicking sound and the computer does not detect it then the hard disk is faulty. This is commonly known as "The click of death". There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

I cant open my external
It's hard to say from your description what the problem is but the first thing to do is determine the condition of the drive. You can check if there are problems with the drive using the free trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/
If it checks out ok then you can try to recover your data with Recuva it's free http://www.piriform.com/recuva
Or if you need data recovery help this a good choice for low cost and fast data recovery. All data recovery work is performed remotely over the Internet from a boot cd that you download and the best part is they just ask for donations if you are happy with the results: http://FreeDataRecovery.us
