If the motherboard is powering down at random intervals after powering on, that might be a hardware problem that's non-recoverable, like a failing capacitor. The only other thing to check is if anything is electrically shorting the motherboard - does any wire in contact with the board have a split in the insulation, is there a fallen screw, etc? Check behind it, too, and make sure it can't be shorting against the case. The only other thing you can try is to reset the BIOS. Check the motherboard manual for the specifics. It involves unplugging the system, removing the CR2032 battery, and moving a jumper for a few seconds. That will factory reset all settings and possibly help if your issue is BIOS-related. You could be onto something with the power supply - especially if it's one of the rails that powers the motherboard that's acting up. Cross-test your motherboard with another power supply to be sure. If you can't bring a power supply to you, take the motherboard to a computer and just stand your motherboard on the floor and stretch the connectors you need from the other computer. (This is less invasive than ripping out the power supply if the other computer isn't yours) If you notice the motherboard powering down even on another power supply, after a full reset, I think it's toast. :(

Possible memory sticks are either installed wrong or not seated properly.

Or you have them in the wrong slots,most slots are color coded.As seen in the picture.orange yellow orange yellow,shown lower right hand side.

If you using two sticks each needs to be in either yellow or orange.

Check the 4 pin fan power connector is seated firmly on the motherboard.
If it still does not work then the fan is probably faulty and needs to be replaced.

The CPU is shutting down because it is overheating (ie thermal shutdown) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this problem is not fixed, eventually the CPU will fail completely.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely. Also check the power supply fan to see if it spins freely. If the CPU fan has failed, then replace the CPU fan. The CPU fan and heat-sink assembly may be clogged with dust, if so loosen the dust and vacuum to remove the dust.

Type P5L-MX in the search box in the upper left and click "Search Info".

You will need to verify the P5L-MX and click on the link for it. (This is because there is also a P5L-MX/IPAT motherboard.)

When you click on the P5L-MX link you will then need to select your operating system. Select WinXP from the dropdown menu.

Available downloads will then be listed. Click on AUDIO to see the available drivers.
