I've bought a hard drive to put music on for my car and every time I plug my seagate hard drive in its says error 23. Never had any problems with usb sticks.

Is it a portable External drive ? If it is the type with a 2.5" spinning disc in it, I would not use that in a car if you paid me a fortune. They can withstand large shock when they are not 'running' However when 'running', even a small bump (or bump in the road), can allow the floating heads to hit the surface of the spinning drive platters, and it may never work again. One alternative is to - Get a portable SSD (Solid State Drive), as they have no moving parts, and should let you drive over footpaths, when running. Or use a USB stick like you used to. Hope this helps, Rob

I can't get my seagate backup drive to backup my files?

You would be better served if you backed up your whole drive. Actually the whole Windows partition (EG C Drive) Get a couple of Seagate external 2TB drives (not portable ones, the bigger ones the size of a thick book. 3.5" drive inside) Partition the drives to NTFS (FAT has a file size limit of 4GB) Download the free Seagate DiscWizard program - http://www.seagate.com/au/en/support/downloads/discwizard/ Install the program, and immediately after when it is running choose the option to create a bootable CD. There is a sub option to set the CD to default to boot into into the mini OS. If you don't set that you have only a few seconds each time you boot the CD, to avoid it booting into windows. I can help you with that choice, when you are ready to create that CD) I always use the bootable CD to create an image, and to verify that image. (You don't want Windows running when imaging.) If later you need to restore an image, you again do it from the bootable CD The reason to have two external drives, is to alternate which one you create images in. You should also copy your big files from your C drive into both external drives, and then delete them from your C drive. That will mean your C drive images will be smaller, and quicker. If you do images every day, you are protected against - - You corrupting/deleting important files - Virus/Trojan attacks - Ransom ware - Hard drive failure - Etc Yell out if/when you need help, Rob

What external drive enclosure would support a seagate 4200.2 hard drive

Hi Larry There are generally 2 types (sizes) of hard drive. 2.5 Inch & 3.5 inch. Any 3.5" HD enclosure these days should handle either size. The preferred current connector on a HD is SATA (Serial ATA)This small connector on the HD is universal so it's easy to connect a drive. 3.5" HD is preferable for backups & archive as it is faster, more reliable and less prone to bumps. They run on 12v&5v The Pocket type 2.5" run on 5v and are not as fast or secure. My preferred Enclosure that I use is more of a Universal Dock. Either drive can be plugged in at any time. This is great for allowing the use of several drives for different purposes. Eg A Movies Drive. A Backup Drive. A Music Drive or a Bootable External OS in case of problems. Buy USB3 Port Interface where possible or FireWire as the backup speed is Faster Drives not in use get wrapped in antistatic bag or tinfoil & kept in secure location. I use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a Bootable copy of OSX. Great program... used it for years. Demo is free and fully usable. Hope this helps NewerTech Voyager S3 Mac Backup Software NewerTech Voyager S3 Hard Drive Docking Solution USB 3 0

Why is Safari not showing content of Seagate Wireless when MacBook Pro shows that it is wirelessly connected?

The Seagate drive doesn't seem to have a Web interface, so Safari can't connect to it. It looks like you need to load the Seagate Media app on your MacBook.

Seagate barracuda7200.7 ultra ata 40gb is not detected by my pc,I tried to format it by windows xp boot CD,still it was not detected, system notified that there is no hard disk installed in your system

For a hard drive to even be detected it has to spin - if not spinning it is kaput and needs to be replaced. Make sure that the unit is receiving power before you do anything drastic.

HOW TO RETRIEVE A PASSWORD FROM, OR CHANGE THE PASSWORD ON A WIRELESS ROUTER

How to retrieve a password or change the password for a wireless network from the router Get an ethernet cable and plug your computer to the router with it..Click on your browser and in the address bar type the IP address for your particular router. (You can find this by googling the make and model of your router and the words IP ADDRESS.) you will then be presented with the page after which you will have access to the router's control software. The page asks for username and password, they should, if they have not been altered from default, both be the word admin Having entered these and pressed the enter button you should be in the control menus. Look for the wireless networking option, find it , click on it and you should find yourself in a screen on which your network's ID, (also known as SSID,) and password are displayed. There may or may not be the option of turning the radio / wireless section off temporarily...if it is available click on it to stop the wireless from broadcasting...if the option is not listed it obviously cannot be done! Next, highlight the network password and delete it, then insert your new password, making a note of it and remembering that it will be case sensitive. Make sure you SAVE THE CHANGES Next ... If you have shut wireless/radio down reactivate it. Then exit the utility. Advanced users might want to create a password for getting into the router. Anyway, after having exited detach the ethernet lead and click on your browser and click on the wireless networking/connection icon in the system tray, highlight your network and click on the connect button. You will then be presented with the option of entering your new password which should be entered exactly as you wrote it when in the router. You should, after a wait of a few seconds, be connected to the internet. Hide the new password and your ethernet cable if you have not put a new admin password on the router. Then, BOBS YOUR UNCLE.

really, ALL? use the quickest and simplest way is: remove all partitions on your HD then create a new ones with different sizes. But, if you're concerned with the content and want data to get completely wiped out then there're different procedures (depending on the level of your concerns).

My seagate hard drive wont switch on when I connect it to the computer

I am assuming you are referring to an external hard drive. This is becoming a more commonplace occurrence now that there are more and more of these devices out there and they are starting to age slightly. The drives inside these enclosures are the very same drives you will find in desktop and/or laptop computers, depending upon the physical size of the drive enclosure. Unfortunately, the majority of these enclosures
  1. provide very poor shock protection
  2. provide almost no ventilation (cooling)
Add to that the fact that they have an additional circuit board inside to convert from SATA to USB which has an unacceptably high failure rate, and you have a recipe for disaster. All is not lost, however. If your drive is still under warranty, you can get it repaired or replaced.....with the great possibility of losing any and data that was on it. Most folks don't like this option. You can crack open the case and remove the hard drive within. You can then insert it in a docking station or install it in a desktop PC and try to recover your files. More and more folks are getting upset with the shorter life span and even shorter warranty of the SATA drives being manufactured today. There was a time when manufacturers routinely warranted their drives for five years. Today most only have a one year warranty...a few go as high as three. You'll pay a bit more for the three year drive though. Makes me yearn for the old PATA drives......
