These video cards were part of a lawsuit that involved Nvidia because the graphics ccard would "de-solder" and you would get the BSOD (blue screen of death). I know that the lawsuit is over and Nvidia lost but not sure if you can still get a claim in for this computer. Here's a link I found by typing Nvidia lawsuit that looks relevant.http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2010/10/nvidia-settles-faulty-processor-suit-dell-hp-compaq-mac.html Hope this helps

Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV650 won't power on...at all. Power button?

No! the power button is the last thing you would expect to go. Remove main battery and try again, if no! sub out the ram one at a time and test each one by attempting to power up, if still no result! the DC jack in the laptop is a trouble spot, at this point dis-assembly down to the motherboard is required, check DC jack connections carefully and resolder anyway, "board is double foiled"

The recovery disk provided when purchased are FAIL. You have to purchase working disk from Toshiba for 30.00 plus shipping. I think this is bogus but they won't budge.

Hi there, I have a Qosmio G35 (as stated) and I

Most of this series already came with a core 2 duo

However to get best use of that you do need to make sure you install a 64 bit OS

It will go up a small amount in CPU speed but that increase will be negligable in the grand scheme of things.

4Gb ram is sufficiebt to run windows 7 but the limiting factor will be the graphics.
The problem with almost all laptops is in most cases the inablility to install a decent graphics card of suitable power to take advantage.

If you want to use it for gaming of any proportion then you would need to consider a new laptop.
If gaming is not a major concern then it should be suitable for the 2 years you are seeking to achieve.

Any additions including extra memory bring about increases in heat.

For sure you should get a proper cooling pad with its own power supply. Dont cheap out on a laptop usb powered cooler as you fill find battery drain heavy and even possible burn out of the USB ports.

Again doing a cpu upgrade is not going to give you as much benefit as you would like and from my POV the cost would outweegh the benefit.

Same Video garbage on screen and external monitor

On a laptop, the video card is part of the mainboard, not cost efectively replaceable. If there is video garbage on the screen, looks like a new computer unless you want to disassemble it to see if there is a loose connection between the display and the mainboard.

Looks like you have become a victim to the Video Burnout plaguing this series of notebook, I had the same issue, when Toshiba replaced the board it worked for about 3 more months then quit again. (this time outside the warranty) I'm looking for another working board to replace mine with. Good luck! it is cheaper at this point to replace the puter.
