First, start with the easy stuff - remove the battery and press the reset button - hold down for about 10 seconds. replace the battery, attach your AC adapter and attempt to start the player. If it still won't start, you may have a damaged DC-In connector OR the charge circuit may be bad - a TI Chip on your main board sometimes goes bad - it can be replaced. Also, if the battery is absolutely dead - no charge left at all, the player will not start even with an AC adapter

Try pressing and holding the TV/LCD button just after switching on, you should get a recovery mode screen. Select repair disk.

Archos will not start to charge

The best solution out of situations like this is to do as the device tells you to(to format it) but since it doesn't allow you to by not staying on for long enough you have to use the hard reset or format method which requires you to format the device even before it turns on completely.
Follow the instructions below

1. hard reset the 704 using the button under the battery right hand side;
2. reformat the unit (but that would of course delete contents).

Just curious, did you try/did a firmware update recently? Additionally, the manual has some details on troubleshooting as well as Archos online support.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

connect your archos on pc then trobleshoot your archos then after its over it will for dc in then put it into charge and the problem is solve

Hello Devlin - try the following first: remove the battery and you will see a dome-shaped reset button mounted near the battery contacts on the player. Carefully depress the button, hold down for about 10 seconds. Use a blunt, pointed object but not a sharp object (such as a pin, knife, etc.). Replace the battery and try restarting the player.
Secondly: if the player still does not turn on -
If a battery has become completely drained, the player may not start even when using the AC adapter. In this case, perform the resetting step above, plug in the AC adapter and allow the player to charge for a couple of hours and then try restarting

Hi, How long did you plug the charger to the my archos 704 wifi ?might have been over charged and has killed the battery cell.

Does it use a AC adapter?,is yes try and test it without using the battery and see if it will come on. If it comes up ,that means the battery cell is dead and battery will need to be replaced. But if it did not come on, That mean it is a power fault that will need a technician assistance.

The archos doesn't have the ability to steam music from itself to another device over the network, the sound settings allow audio output via analog line out or the spdif interface, that would mean you would have to connect it with a cable to the stereo - to get the sound of the music to come out from your home stereo in this case.

Its a music player, it can play the music over the network from your computer or from the internet, but it can't send the sound over the wireless to the roku.

I suppose it would be possible to get the roku to play the songs stored in the archos if it had a software that worked with the roku - file sharing. but you would still have to use the remote of the roku to change songs etc.

The only way to get your stereo to play the songs in your archos in a way that you can stop, play, skip, browse to another song on the archos screen would be if you connected it with a cable to the stereo.

The Archos remote should work straight away, there is nothing to set in there.

Try taking out the battery for one minute, to reset the Archos.

If that does not work you could also reset the Archos to factory. This will delete all settings and installed applications, and may not fix the problem if the remote is faulty.

The best thing is contacting Archos and checking if the remote can be replaced. They may ask you to do an hard reset before replacement.

Another solution is going to a retailer and ask if they can test the remote.

Here also a replacement remote. Before buying do a factory reset as explained at page 71 of the manual, and test again.

Change the WEP mode on the Archos to 64 bit, it sounds like you have different modes set.

If you enter recovery mode then connect to a computer, you can then use windows drive checker to verify the drive. If all is OK, copy firmware to the root then disconnect and reboot

A) Download the firmware from Archos and save it to your desktop (Make sure the file name on the desktop hasn't changed from the original download file name)

B) The Archos 705:
1- Connect the unit to its power source.
2- Start the unit in recovery mode: Press the TV button first then the power on/off and keep pressing TV button (do not release it)
3- The recovery mode will start (the screen that asks for repair or format etc…)
4- Select "Repair" by scrolling up and down with the TV Button (it is all explained to move through the menu at the top of the Archos screen) (Do not press "Format" at any time)
5- Now that you are on "Repair" select it to validate your selection
6- The unit will go to "Plug the unit etc…" plug it with the USB cable to the computer
8- Wait until Pc should recognizes your Archos (around 5 seconds)

C) Computer
1- From your computer select the firmware file you downloaded from the net and put it in your Archos (in the root folder, nowhere else, where it has the folders, music, videos, pictures etc… as a file)

D) On the Archos 705:
1- Select "Ok" on the Archos (on & off button) shortly to select and confirm the file is now on the Archos
2- you are done! The Archos 5 or 7 should now read through the file you have transferred and repair the system
3- DO NOT DISCONNECT the power cable until the process is finished
4- When done safely disconnect (as you usually do, for Mac trash the letter of the Archos to the bin or for PC's: right click the green icon bottom right of the screen for xp & vista)
5- Press on/off button to reboot

Your unit should restart with a fresh repaired, updated system like day one.
