Usually the gears will strip the lens gears which tend to be plastics whereas Sony a cameras themselves have metal driven cogs....I once stripped a sigma zoom using an A700 simply because the motor on that camera had no feedback on torque...put a different lens to check this out first...then check the faulty lens the cog is visible once you remove the rear mount.

I have the sony a100 alpha... it wont take a photo. 4 red zeroes

Check the memory stick if its full and delete some photos......then try and take a shot.
the four red zeroes are counters for the number of shots u have taken.....it simply indicates you have a full memory stick.
Mine played the same trick on me too.

Maxum 5d not turning on

Battery good? Memory card in? Was the camera dropped recently? Lens connection may need cleaning, though you normally get error messages if the camera can't talk to the lens.

Sony a100 wont turn on

If the battery is charged, try replacing the battery first. Also try turning on the camera with the charger plugged in. If neither helps, you will probably need to have the camera sent for repairs, but you can still try checking out the user manual for helpful information: Sony Alpha DSLR A100 manual

My view finder on my sony dslr A100 wont show what

The A100 uses sensors near where you place your eye. Make sure the rubber eye cup is clean, and does not block these sensors. as a test put your finger on them while holding camera away from face ( located just below eye cup) then you will see the view finder light up. If not problem is the sensors.

Sony DSLR-A100 eroor 0x58

Well, the good news is that there's probably no fault with the camera itself. It could be something as simple as the CF card being pushed in the wrong way. A look through the user manual will likely help you get to the bottom of your issue: Sony Alpha DSLR A100 manual

I can't transfer images from my camera to my

The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa. Organize edit and share your photos

Error code 0x57 appears after i snap a shot.

I've just solved the problem by firmware update and battery removal for 1 day. I prepared my camera for expensive repair in service: card was formatted, battery removed .. and then in service, when I put the battery back, my camera just worked :) Try it, I hope it will help everyone.

How do you straighten the contact pins to read the card?

I would make sure it's the contact pins by trying a different card. We've had one of our A100's for a long time and has seen much use without any problems. Make sure the contacts on the card itself is not tarnished or dirty also. If the pins are at fault, they would likely need replacing and that's when I'd look into an A-58, 65 or 77 upgrade.
