Try to unplug from power all units connected to the set for a while, power set up first then other units to see if a reboot will cure this.

Likely a bad circuit board= a photo of what it looks like posted here or elsewhere might help narrow down what the problem is.

I have noticed that if my kids leave a youtube video up, or are skyping at the same time I am trying to watch Netflix, there can be slowdowns. Make sure no other unnecessary internet bandwidth is being used.

Sony is a great company. They care about their public image, which is more than I can say about most of the TV manufactures out there. The first thing you need to so is call them. The number is in your service manual.

Your TV is an LCD and the LCD panel is losing the "Timing" signal at the point were the distortion begins on the screen. This is caused by an internal connection becoming weak. The LCD panel can only be replaced to resolve the problem. This is expensive! Sony, if approached correctly (don't yell or curse) may help you with the bill. They may cover parts or labor... best case, they cover both! It's best to try... this is the only company that I know of that helps out like this. I have witnessed it several times!

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you might have a backlight and/or an inverter board issue with this TV set. It could also be due to the inverter circuits for the backlights. The inverter is the power supply source for the backlights. There could also be a screen driver problem; if it is then you have to change the entire inverter board. All this is only recommended if you have some kind of expertise for checking the internal circuitry of the TV as these units have high voltages running even when the set is switched off. The cost to change the inverter board including labor would be around $250, if you get this done by a professional. i have a sony bravia model number KDL-40XBR2 it has no sound and no picture but green light on the front of the set turns on when the set turns on ================================================== Hi, Unplug tv from AC wall socket for couple of minutes to get it reset, replug back in and turn it On, does it show picture/ display and gives sound? Let me know if you still have problem with it and click on "work with same expert" option to find out problem cause. Thanks.

Shock... death, is the first, Um well it's not too hard if your methodical and careful. have a reconnoiter first and have a look at what you need to do, familiarize yourself & go over it in your mind, and with POWER OFF, Plug removed, remove old board, draw a diagram of any wires plugs etc.keep/put screws all together. Insert new board, reconnect the wires, plugs etc, then put the screws back in. NOW stand back, and turn on.... Umm as an aside here we do know why the LCD controller board went faulty, huh?

The panel costs about a grand. You'll want to be free with posting the serial # of your set, as the panel part # may change depending on the serial #.

On top of any part costs, a reputable firm will charge about $250.00-$350.00 to install a panel for you. Make sure they warranty their work, as you'll want to rake that new panel over the coals before it runs out.

Paying for tv repairs sucks.
